Description: From Dries Van Noten 2014 A/W. Coat
This is the first piece where I learned to use an insulated (cotton) jacquard fabric. This technique creates a softer image for both round and flat jacquard fabrics, and I personally think it brings out their better side. The jacquard I have used has a slight asperity. The inner cotton combined with the color and pattern creates a roundness that strengthens the feminine characteristics of the piece.

The focus of this piece is its silhouette and volume. I was looking for a paper-like material but couldn’t find one that fit the quality and color I was looking for, so I decided to use a soft embroidery fabric.

The fabric used in this piece is quite firm and rigid. The relatively long length also adds on to the forceful image of the design. The copy that I created is made of soft fabric including a little bit of polyurethane. The fabric was chosen in order to add comfort since the fit was relatively tight. The final product has a soft impression, but I believe this design will look good in either soft or hard fabrics.

The focus of this design is the big tuck attached in the front and the silhouette created by the defined jacquard fabric. I was allured by the way the jacquard material was used in a denim-like fashion to create a premium feel and casualness at the same time. I’ve learned that a piece having multiple dimensions rather than a single traditional figure creates innovation. The piece I have copied uses soft material, but I prefer using a more rigid one next time to bring out the design.
