The soldiers that Nikolai had abandoned you with admittedly terrified you a little. Maybe more than a little. Much to your dismay, they had strapped you to a rickety wooden chair after Nik left, effectively fixing your arms and legs with zip ties. The thick plastic was pulled so tightly that it cut into your still tender skin, aggravating your rope burns further and nearly cutting off your circulation. If anyone made military grade zip ties, this is what you imagine they might feel like.

The room they are keeping you in is long and gutted — nothing left to suggest it's previous purpose. Holes in the weathered floorboards indicate where something had been bolted down once and the planks were slightly discoloured in a row of neat rectangles, blocked off by years of the sun and abundance of dust. It could have been a bunkhouse once, you think, but all the beds were since removed. The only furniture remaining here were two large military supply crates — obviously brought by the soldiers — and your chair, which had been borrowed from another part of the building.

The four of them stood tall, three fanned out and one looming over you.

"We'll start with something simple, yeah?" The man in blue is in front of you, posture relaxed but his attention laser focused. "What's your name?"

You answer, voice shakey and uncertain. These men set you on edge for the typical reasons of course, but also because you didn't know who they were or what they wanted from you. The patch on their uniforms displayed a Union Jack, meaning they operated from Britain. So why were they over here? You weren't on English turf.

"Okay. And what's your dad's name?"

The Scott was still guarding the only exit and the masked man was watching out a cracked and yellowed window, but you could tell his attention was divided. His eyes may have been out in the yard, but his ears were trained on this... conversation. The Captain was staring straight through you from behind Garrick and you shifted uncomfortably in the seat. A mistake realized too late, as it sent a ripple of discomfort up one of your legs.

"Because we're asking." The Captain shifts his weight, replying slowly. "Name."

"I... I don't want to get him in trouble." You say softly, looking down at your knees. Your dad was the kind of person to greet the neighbours and host charity events. You didn't want to betray your own father like that, so you opted to stay silent.

"You won't." Price grunts, tipping his crossed arms at an angle and swaying forwards a step. "You're not getting him in trouble. We need his help."

"Then why am I here and not him?" Your fingers twitch against dry wood.

The Captain just chuckles at that, but there's no humour behind his laugh. He doesn't answer your question either, just shakes his head to the right. "Listen. We need his help to stop a very bad man. And we need you to give us a name."

"Elias." A tremor makes your foot jump. It didn't feel good to be so honest. What if they were going to go kill him now, and you'd effectively just signed his death warrant? Hell, what if they were going to kill you after you told them what they wanted to know? "But don't– don't hurt him. He can pay you. Whatever you want, just don't kill him. Or me. Please don't kill me. He's got money, please."

"Ye' bribing us?" The Scottish man with a mohawk pipes up and you turn your head. He didn't seem to be taking this very seriously if the easy grin on his face is anything to go by.

"Easy, Johnny." The Masked Man mumbles from his lookout.

"We're not going to kill you." Garrick assures smoothly before redirecting to the topic of their interest. "How much money are we talking here? What's in your dad's accounts?" He asks and behind him, the Captain looks proud.

"Um... a lot?" You try to think of the last time you saw your father's finances. He kept them pretty private, but the hefty allowance he gave you every month seemed to be nothing to him. Pennies from his real pay. "I don't know exact figures, but I do know that you could all retire tomorrow with a house and a yacht and a trust fund for any future grandchildren if you let me go."

Leaning forward, you try to look as earnest as you can. The Masked Man shakes his head but at least Kyle seems to be taking you seriously. Maybe he's your ticket out of here.

"Alright, I'll keep it in mind." He says, taking off his sunglasses and sliding them into his shirt pocket before continuing. "Do you know where all that money comes from? Does your dad have a job?"

"Of course he has a job." You look at him funny. How else did he think he made his money?

"I never like to assume." Kyle lifts his arms in defence. "What does he do for a living, then?"

"He's a car CEO. He owns a bunch of dealerships across North America. It's good money, if that's what you're asking."

"I'm not saying it's not. Can you tell me more about these dealerships? Ever gone with him to work?"

"Um... Yeah. I mean no." You stumble over your words. "I mean– yes he goes on a lot, no I can't go with him."

"Why can't you, do you think?" Kyle implores gently.

"I'd be a distraction, I guess." You laugh nervously. "He doesn't let me go on those trips, but sometimes we go on vacation to make up for it. Not very often, though."

Garrick nods, his brown eyes seeming earnest. "He's a hard working guy, I can respect that. How often does your dad take these trips for work?"

"Pretty often." You admit. "It seems like he's gone every month."

"It must get lonely not being able to see him often." He sympathizes. You just shrug so he takes the opportunity to ask another question. "How long is he usually gone for at a time?"

"A few days? A week? Is this even relevant?" You tug at your binds but they are still solid. Still painful. "What am I doing here!?"

Nobody answers. The room is silent for a moment, the only sounds being the echo of wind whipping through empty rooms somewhere deeper inside the deserted building and a forlorn cricket chirping from the dried grasses beyond. Garrick glances behind him, stepping away at a nod from his Captain. Price takes his place in front of you, grunting as he looks you over. His height and stature was dreadfully intimidating and you wish he wouldn't stand so close.

"It's relevant." Is all he says. "Your dad ever mention the name 'Isaev'?"

You shake your head, much less willing to talk to him. He wasn't as nice as Garrick had been and he certainly didn't seem as patient.

"Doubt he would've. How about 'Scrapper?'"

That sounded like a third rate super villain, you think to yourself and you have to bite your lip from laughing out loud. It would only make you look insane. You shake your head again. No, you hadn't heard that name before either.

"Right. How many trips do you think an average car dealer makes in a year?"

You furrow your eyebrows. A lot?

"Dunno." You say quietly, picking at the crumbling wood of the chair.

"Five." The Captain leans back, boots creaking. "And that's being generous."

"What is that supposed to mean?" You exclaim. Your dad was a business man. Business men took business trips sometimes, that's just what they did. Why were these guys so skeptical about it? None of this made any sense to you.

"It means... your dad's the reason you're here right now." Price says steadily. "His dealership job? 'S just a side gig. You don't make what he makes on a CEO'S salary." He lets his words hang, watching as they worm their way into your brain.

Could that be right? You never gave much thought to what your dad did for work before. You knew he had a top position at his company and was well paid. But beyond that you didn't have much interest in it. Why should you? He gave you enough money every month for anything you wanted to blow it on. All your life you'd assumed that was how all CEO's lived. It was all you had known.

"What are you saying?" You breathe, glancing around the room. Your heart felt like the skin of a drum; frantic and stretched taught. "That he's some kind of criminal? That the money's fake?"

"Oh, it's real." Price dips his head, cutting right to the chase. "We have reason to believe that your dad is dealing weapons and selling them to foreign terror organizations."

Someone laughs, shrill and unstable and it startles you. None of the men were grinning anymore and you realize that you had been the one to make the noise.

"My dad isn't a terrorist!" Your voice was pitched too high. You didn't recognize it.

"Not necessarily, but he does aid them." Garrick speaks up, tone somber. "He supplies the bastards with whatever they need to wipe out villages. To level countries. He's not innocent."

"But– but you said 'reason to believe.' That means you don't have any real evidence to back it up." You shake your head, mouth going dry. "That doesn't mean... it doesn't... you can't just accuse someone of being a terrorist without proof!"

"We've got proof." The man in the mask straightens, finally abandoning his post from the window. He speaks slowly, deliberately, but his voice is just as lethal as the look ever-present glint in the Captain's eyes. "We've got more then enough. Just needed his name from you."

"Ghost." The Captain warns but doesn't stop him as he approaches you. "Gaz, take overwatch."

Kyle, apparently also called Gaz, takes up the spot that the masked man — Ghost — had previously occupied. He stalks over to you, glowering beneath his balaclava.

"You want to know what daddy gets up to when he's not playing cars?" Ghost leans in, planting his hands on the backrest of your chair. This Scrapper concealed his identity well, but certain things point to him and Elias being the same person."

You could feel yourself starting to shut down. After all the stress of the last few days, you'd practically been running on nothing but adrenaline. You were hurting, tired, overwhelmed, and now a bunch of dangerous soldiers were telling you that your dad was essentially a national threat. In the middle of some abandoned saw mill that you weren't even sure you were going to get out of alive. A lump clogs your throat but you can't feel any tears. In fact, you were starting to feel nothing at all.

"The Russians have cut a deal with him." Ghost continues, letting your chair fall forward onto all four legs with a thud. The motion causes the zip ties to slice harder and you swallow a pained mewl. "They're buying a shipment of drones from Scrapper and we intend to intercept the exchange. Thing is, we haven't been able to sort where it's happening yet."

"Clearly you haven't known about all of this." The Captain cuts in, his voice softening but not entirely. He may be sympathetic but he still needed something from you. "Command won't let us act without a positive ID on the Scrapper. That's why you're here."

He pulls out a device and holds it up at your eye level.

A secret identity had seemed ridiculous when they brought it up, but the more you thought about it, the more plausible it became. His time overseas. The secrecy of his bank accounts. His extreme protectiveness when it came to you. Maybe it wasn't so far fetched. The images of the smoking man calling himself Scrapper did look eerily similar to the profile of your father.

If he was arrested then what would happen to you? Surely they'd freeze all his bank accounts, and by extension probably yours too. That would leave you with nothing. No way to provide for yourself. You'd be left alone if he went to prison and you weren't sure you'd make it on your own. You'd never actually worked a day in your life, let alone drafted a resume. You'd never needed to before. Unless your friend could get you a job at her soap making company, you might be done for.

"Lass."

"Hm?" You lift your head. Johnny was looking at you expectantly. Ghost was speaking with the Captain and Kyle had his sights trained out in the logging field.

"Maybe." You echo, but it's vacant. You didn't know what to think.

As the Captain and Ghost finish up whatever discussion they were holding in hushed tones, they turn to face you and you don't like the way they stare.

"Right." The Captain says, pulling out a roll of yellow duct tape and tearing a length with an awful, plastic-y sound. "Show time."

You loved your dad for the most part. You couldn't believe that a caring, dedicated man like him could lead such a heinous double life. You were loyal to him of course, but if he truly was this Scrapper persona? You weren't sure were your loyalties would fall. With family or humanity?

You sniff, willing your features into something that hopefully resembled neutral. But honestly, most of your body felt numb.

Ghost fiddles with the keyboard and touch pad for a moment before stepping back and looking to Price.

"Everything sorted?"

"Affirmative." Ghost nods. The Captain returns the gesture and re-adjusts the webcam to capture only you on the video. The rest of them stand behind the camera and then Price hits record.

"Scrapper." He begins, a smug little smirk hidden beneath his moustache. "Or Elias, if you prefer. As you can see, we've got your daughter here. She's unharmed and she can remain that way as long as you do exactly what we tell you. We're sending you a link. It will put you in direct contact with us to ensure your girl's safety. If we do not hear from you within the next 24 hours, you will not see her again. If you contact any of your clients about this, you will not see her again. Price steps forward, fingers hesitating over the space bar to end the video before adding one final thing:

"And Scrapper? I'd suggest you make the decision quickly. It would be a shame to lose your only child. Wouldn't it?"

The recording ends with that sinister message and The Captain nudges the laptop on top of the crates.

"Send it." Is all he says, grabbing another cigar out of his rucksack. "Let me know when you hear anything."

"Copy." Replies Ghost, taking back the device and retreating to his own corner to send off the message. Garrick seems to have given up overwatch in favour for a nap against the far wall, and Johnny is content to fit in his workout regime while you all wait for the response. That leaves you to pray, not for the first time today, that your father will get you out of this whole mess alive and well.
