Our next band, Arc of the Sun, is a five-piece punk-metal fusion band from College Park, Maryland. The band came together after the members had played countless shows in the punk and hardcore scenes with their own bands before deciding to unite and produce something completely unique. The band draws from all over but mainly looks to Four Year Strong and Periphery for inspiration, though Jonah tells us that, “Nothing gets the creative juices going like listening to a great classical piece.” (I can only assume he means Beethoven or Bach, not AC/DC and Led Zep.) They give a lot of credit to guitarist/vocalist Jonah Amster for the creation of the first album.  “The whole first album was composed by Jonah,” they said, “There were a ton of demos that he had recorded himself and made into full songs; when [our] guitarist Dave joined he added a riff here and there … but the majority, 90% of the first album, was Jonah’s creation.” Their debut album is set to drop in September, but AotS has released a single off the album which you can check out on YouTube with a second single planned to be out by the time this article is posted. The band has never been to Riot Fest but says thing on their bucket list is to play at Warped Tour.  “As one of the oldest music festivals in the world, all of us Arc have been to Warped at some point and have had an amazing time throwing down with our favorite bands,” Jonah says, “Warped Tour has helped establish some of the most iconic bands out there, so naturally we would be thrilled and humbled to perform there.” Jonah says he isn’t partial to either festivals or shows because, “At the end of the day the best part of any show is the crowd. When an audience comes to any kind of show with energy enthusiasm, and love for the music the band playing feels that and feeds off it.  It’s a cycle that creates an amazing experience, and whether you’re at a huge festival ground surrounded by thousands of people or at a small bar in the inner harbor of Baltimore, if an audience connects to a band like that the people around you become family and the show will be one you won’t forget.”
