one would argue that march can be an uneventful month. but not in new york ! check out what the city has in store for this month.
ooc information: this is a small list of community events happening around new york city. while it’s not necessary, writers can and are encouraged to use this list of events as a setting for their threads. what’s listed below is what will be taking place through the month of february.
ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE – the 265th new york city st. patrick’s day parade will commence on march 17. known to be the oldest st. patrick’s day parade, it’ll take place along fifth avenue with over 150,000 participants and around two million spectators ! this parade showcases irish culture inclusive of bands, bagpipers, and traditional dress with festivities set to begin at 11:00am and wind down by the early evening.
ST. PATRICK’S DAY BAR CRAWL – a handful of bars across manhattan are partaking in the annual bar crawl including the blossom bar. and as usual, spaces are decked out in green with custom cocktails and limited imported brews to accompany it. enjoy the exclusive drink specials and party with a very lively crowd. hopefully you’ve got your tickets because they’ve been selling out fast !
NYBG ORCHID SHOW – the new york botanical garden hosts its 23rd annual exhibition. each year, the orchid show stuns the public with a different theme and this year is no different. the nybg has collaborated with mr. flower, one of the most in-demand floral artists in the world to create a reimagining of the big apple. the exhibit is currently running with tickets on sale. in addition to the orchid show, the nybg is also offering orchid nights –– a block party at the botanical garden filled with live music, curated bites and cocktails. tickets are also on sale for select dates throughout the month of march !
PI DAY PIE EATING CONTEST – put your pie eating skills to the test ! sponsored by bone appetreats, the contest will take place on pi day, march 14 at the dog bakery. to enter, simply sign up online and pay a small fee. proceeds will be going to bone appetreats’ pet adoption center. while the pie eating contest takes place, spectators can also take a look at what the dog bakery has to offer and perhaps even grab a treat for any of their canine friends or even adopt a furry friend of their own.
CELEBRATE WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH – march is women’s history month and a time to celebrate the contributions and recognize the achievements that women have made throughout history. the city has no shortage of events happening to celebrate.
bryant park is hosting a month-long pop up to shop and support women-owned businesses. from art to food, there’s no shortage of what women can accomplish.
the new york public library ( nypl ) is celebrating with free events, resources, and recommended readings for the month. events include book discussion groups, film screenings, arts and crafts, performances and more !
the annual women’s jazz festival continues at the schomburg center. also hosted by the nypl, join the library in celebrating over 30 years of black women in jazz. performances are stacked with featured vocalist-composers, saxophonists, and all women jazz bands.
the new york historical society launches an engaging exhibit that showcases the garments and accessories of everyday american women throughout history. pulled from the archives, it dives into the different outfits and looks that tie into how women and fashion have adapted to societal changes.
