two’s a company.

jaewan was having a pretty bad day. mind you, when it came to him, every day was a bad day. he was feeling pretty down about himself, nothing going right ever since he had woken up that morning. 

first off he had woken up in a bad way after a nightmare, so his mind just wasn’t in the right place and he was pretty freaked out from it. and, of course, fear made him stronger, even his own fear, which had caused problems in getting washed and dressed. he somehow managed to break the handle off his dresser... again. to be fair, it had been pretty wobbly before he had even got involved with it, but one boost of strength when he pulled had caused it to just pop right off in his hand for about the third time this month. so that had managed to get him feeling pretty down about how the rest of his day was going to go. 

so far, he hadn’t been disappointed. 

it now a couple of hours after lunch and jaewan was just about ready to fall asleep again. he fought back a yawn, closing his eyes and letting the afternoon sun warm his face a little as he sat outside. it was a nice day out, the sound of the birds twittering away in the distance and the slight wind rusting the leaves of the nearby trees. sometimes he just liked to sit around away from people and pretend that he was normal. pretend that he didn’t have these powers and was just back on campus ready for his next class, back with his friends where nothing was ever out of the ordinary. unfortunately, this could not be the case, he had powers whether he liked it or not and he wasn’t going back to a normal life any time soon. and maybe that was for the best, he was still a danger to other people and himself until he learned to control what he could do properly and not freak out that he might kill someone by accident.

he sighed a little, resting his hands either side of him, angling his head up a little more towards the sky. that’s until he felt someone standing in front of him, slowly opening his eyes, having to squint a little to make out who it was. though he did smile when he finally made out the face. 

“somi, hey.”

as silent as a hurricane

when hayeon and somi work together, silence hangs over them. it isn’t bad. in fact, it’s a true testament to how close they’ve gotten. neither will admit it but the silence was comfortable. looping through them as they stood back to back. almost as tangible as the darkness is to hayeon and the light to somi. almost as comforting. maybe even more

that’s why hayeon knew somi noticed when her shoulders tensed. she couldn’t help it. they’d done a number of stealth missions together but this one was risky. hayeon would never say it out loud, but she could not lose somi. they both exchanged a look. fifty messages all jumping back and forth at the same time. mainly be careful. but also remember the plan. she did of course. they had to get to the estate as soon as they could. the information would likely be in the study. as would lee byunjun and kim mintaek. and a handful of armed guards. along the way there would be the rest of the crime ring scattered about. if they slipped up and exposed themselves. the ARC’s hard work would go down the drain in seconds. no pressure.

9:36. The men were in the sitting room by this time. guards on break playing poker, watching the door. guns on their holster and a rifle within reach at the corner of the room. the first floor was dimly lit at this time, only a few lamps were turned on. the orange glow cast on the men’s faces made plenty of room for the shadows. hayeon and somi were both still outside. they could sneak into the first floor no problem. it was the guards by the study that concerned them.

“one step at a time” hayeon said this aloud. a reminder to both her and somi. mostly her though. somi knew where to focus and her eyes were already on the back entrance. hayeon nodded and melted into the shadows. her body felt cold. colder still when she reached out to grab somi and cover her in darkness.

“like a blanket. only softer.” hayeon whispered. she knew somi could barely see when she was covered like this. knew she felt out of control. they walked carefully. slowly over to the back entrance. hayeon knelt down and began to pick the lock as quietly as she could. there were no windows pointing to their direction so the guards inside couldn’t see her. but that also meant she couldn’t see them. the lock clicked far louder than she’d hoped for. an echo to her. to somi. hopefully not to the guards on the other side.
