Chicago winter, 2013 by mattliefanderson
A year ago, a midwinter meltdown erased most of the ice in the Bering Sea, leaving vast stretches of open water and creating shocking conditions like storm surges in coastal villages normally protected by solid sea ice. The winter ice extent, when it hit its maximum last March, was the lowest, by far, in more
The Bering Sea is almost free of ice. No, this is not normal for this time of year. Even the annual Iditarod sled dog race is taking a detour to adjust to this divergence. The orange line on the map above represents the median ice limit for the years 1981 through 2010.
2019 is the second year in a row that ice cover has been at historically low levels in the Bering Sea.
This anomaly is a result of one side of the arctic vortex phenomenon which gets little attention outside Alaska. Strong high pressure masses push milder Pacific air further north than usual. Ice in the Bering does not get as thick and it melts earlier.
The Pacific air surging north squeezes arctic air and forces it further south to the east in the heartland of North America.
So no matter how much snow Sen. James “Snowball Jim” Inhofe brings into the Senate chamber after a DC snowfall, the climate is still changing.
y’all act like you never seen snow before
I see that someone gone crazy with modding their America and installed hardcore version of Frostfall x)
There's a special cold that only New York City can cause inside you.
Europe during Heatwave: It's so bloody hot! We're gonna die!
Australia to Europe: oh that's nothing! Try living through our summer and then tell us you have it hot!
Australia during Arctic Vortex: It's FREEZING!
Europe to Australia: Oh that's nothing in terms of cold! Try our winter and then tell us how cold you have it!
On another note, it's a good thing we've had three consecutive snow days because this math hw isn't done.
