Eddine of dreams
Aaand two acrylic paint foxes to finish up the foxdex. Looking at them, it's kind of wild how far I got with acrylics in just half a year or so. I mean, these are by far not perfect, but they're so much better than my first tries a few months prior!
spring spirits.

ms la cognizi...i care you...
did some realism practise and this photo was just too beautiful not to paint! some inconsistencies with the wings and persepctive, but overall it’s turned out alright!
original photo under the cut:
*doesn't know what to do with digital projects backgrounds so procrastinates with a self portrait*
*still doesn't know what to do with the background*
I have absolutely no idea. I guess this is what happens when you shine a LED light at a fey.
Edit: Since so many reblog this currently, the final piece is here :) https://drachenmagier.tumblr.com/post/182267847937/the-old-gods-do-not-comprehend-artificial-light
To new beginnings
Here’s to new beginnings. I’m a freelance artist, who can’t decide on a single medium, so I do a bit of everything. Mostly I write. I also do ink pen sketches. I tried my hand in digital art, which I love. When I’m bored, I make jewellery, home decor, or pick up various arts and crafts projects.
Last year in august I tried painting for the first time. Yes, literally for the first time at the age of 35. Before that my acquaintance with paint and brushes was limited to painting window frames for my grandma’s summer house or similar things. But last year I decided to try to paint. Until then I was firmly convinced that I couldn’t paint a picture to save my life. At first I tried acrylics, but that medium didn’t work for me because the paint dries out much too fast. That is why I decided to dabble in the noblest, most complicated, best regarded, most mysterious medium of all.
Oil paints.
So, not only did I pick a brush for the first time last august, I also picked up a whole new system of painting I was completely inexperienced in. Trust me, oil painting is a world removed from acrylics. In essence, acrylics don’t work for me, but oils do. I spent a few months trying it out, copying photographs of fruit. Then I slowly progressed to a motif that came from my heart. Mountains. I painted a few pieces with mountains on them. And then I kind of hit a wall. After two commissions nothing new came to me. I spent a few months neither painting not writing. But now it all starts again, and this blog marks the beginning of a new creative period in my life with the start of a new creative project.
My best friend showed me the film about the band Queen, “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The new project I’m starting this blog with is my tribute to Freddie Mercury.
I’m going to paint Freddie. There is, of course, a reference picture, but I’m not going to share that. Three days ago I took the first step in this project: I bought a bigger canvas than I’ve used before. Until now I only used the practice size 30x40cm. This project is 50x60sm. I also had to buy a whole new easel. I don’t have a separate room for a studio, or even a separate desk. I’m working on my computer desk. Until now my easel was a tiny one that suited me just fine. But with the bigger canvas comes a different easel demand. Now I have a very adjustable field easel that can accommodate a lot. I love it!
Today I took step two: I painted the background of the future painting. To be honest: I’ve never tried to paint people. But experience shows that you never know what you’re good at unless you try something new. And so this is me trying something new.
