where did the children go? | @argelfrasterr
ever since the curse has been lifted & she has been granted a life on both land & water, charybdis has taken this time to truly enjoy her freedom. each day she’d explore & each day she’d barf out what she’d have eaten simply due to hunger. despite it all, she still found a way to stomach the food, even if it’d only little by little. she’d enjoy every single sound that she’d encounter, ranging from birds chirping & gentle breeze of the wind. every sound she’d encounter, she’d cherish, even the droplet of water hitting the ground from the rain. it was better than the rushing waves of the ocean or the screams of agony of men. it was until one day that she encountered a sound that she never thought could bring her such discomfort. it was day 168 that it happened. it was raining heavily that night. she had found shelter within a cave & only a bon-fire to keep her warm. it was then a lightning strike, illuminating the night sky. at first, that didn’t bother her, as she knew that lightning wasn’t aim at her. the sound following it made her hair stood up, her nerves going haywire. the booming sound of a thunder, crashing against the air & deafening her mind. it was then that she learned something about herself. she loathed the sound & continuing to do so. it was as if zeus was punishing her, though she should have known better. for centuries, cursed as nothing but a monstrous whirlpool, that was all she could hear. every time disaster would strike for mankind, thunderstorm accompanied their screams. each booming sound reminded her of the time she killed —-of the time she swallowed all those men only wished for safe passage. the sound reminded her of the time she was a monster; a fate she thought was inescapable.
to this day, it continues to set her nerves on fire. this is more than being frightened. it is being reminded of the deed she done that gotten her to be cursed. it is being reminded that she was abandoned. it is being reminded of the love she had for her family, that was lost. it is being reminded that she was not worthy. there is not remedy for this. people that know her, of what she could do & of what & who she is, they tend to avoid her at all cost. she isn’t the same charybdis that they’d come to know. she’d become easily irritated. despite her contract with zenus of not to kill, she’d go against it without much of acknowledging the consequences. while with lovers, she’d try her best to calm her nerves —-if the thunderstorms weren’t all too bad. unfortunately, none of her lovers had come out unscathed. due to past experience, she’d tend to keep away from her future lovers when the weather is against her.
& the main problem to her nerves being uncontrollable? the ocean become restless & the tides to which she controls will be to big for anyone to be near the beach —-especially when it could flood the road & crash into vehicles if mankind were to be reckless in storms.
