His name is Argus
51 y/o in season 3 TTS
He/him
He was born and raised in Umbra (The Dark Kingdom) for the first four years of his life
He lived with both his parents and his younger sister
he had two binturongs (bear cats) that he owned in Umbra, and eventually gave to Hector as a parting gift
The smell of popcorn is a comfort for him because that's what binturongs smell like
His father was friends with the king of Umbra before Edmund, and that is how Argus met Quirin
Quirin and Argus were friends from 5-14 years old, then started dating secretly
Quirin tells him that he can't tell anyone because it could cause him to lose his place on the Brotherhood because he was told that distractions like relationships could get a knight killed
And despite never saying it, he also did not want Argus to be outcast for trying to court a Brotherhood member (based on Umbra headcanons by @okapis-anonymous)
they date for 5 years until they are 17, when he is forced to move to Corona with his family
they can see how Umbra is deteriorating and want to get out
Quirin gives him his Brotherhood belt buckle as a parting gift, which he keeps with him always
He lives with his family near the capital of Corona for a few years before meeting his wife, Shara (I will most likely talk about her in another post), and moving to the countryside near where Rapunzel's tower was
Despite both always wanting to have children, they find out that Shara is infertile due to a genetic condition she got from her mother
They worked together in their own weapons shop, she would create the weapons, and he would be the ones selling them
Because of this, they often visit the capital for supplies, and they meet and quickly becomes friends with Xavier
whenever his wife is not around, he tells Xavier storys and Mythos from Umbra, which he gladly listens to and catalogues away for future use
He does not want his wife to know about his past in Umbra
After 20 years together, his wife dies in her sleep after being stabbed by a black rock that grew through their bed
she died at age 46
this happens about a year before Quirin is encased in the amber
After grieving for months, Argus begins speaking out against the king, who he blames for not dealing with the rocks
he is put in prison for treason because of his outspokenness
after awhile in prison, he meets Varian
him and Varian quickly become close, and Argus sees him as the kid he never got to have and quickly becomes protective of him while in the prison
he joins the separatist as a way to get out of the prison and to make sure Varian is still ok
Despite joining them, he does not agree with them, their ideals, or their methods. But he was polite to everyone except Andrew, whom he could not stand because of how he treated and groomed Varian
He did not do anything for them after they escaped the prison, preferring to spend time in Varian's lab and listen to him talk about his new inventions and alchemy
After the battle against the separatists is over and they are put back in prison, Argus was able to get out with Varian
After helping clean up the capital he goes back to Old Corona, where he is reunited with Quirin
He ends up staying with them and they become a family
when Varian goes off on his journey to find the library, he gifts him the belt buckle Quirin had once given him
it is both a gift to remember him, as well as a promise for Varian to return because Varian understands how much it means to Argus, and only accepts it if he can eventually give it back
