Seriously, I would’ve loved to see a spin-off about Aria Montgomery. There were so many hinted secrets under her surface. It was obvious that at least at some point they wanted Aria to be more involved with A-team, maybe to be A herself, and they dropped it later and gave “Aria is A”-theorists the crumbs during season 7. I know Marlene said that it would be absurd to make one of the Liars A, but I think it would have been genius. It is one of the most frustrating things in this show for me. Why the heck make her look so shady all the time if she wasn’t up to something? All her suspicious behavior with Mona, clear hints to her mental disorders, her connection and interest to Radley, her discussion with Eddie Lamb and his disappearance after that… I mean, come on! Mental issues run in the family: first Scott, then Mike... I would’ve loved to see more of their family history and dynamic.
From the moment Radley was mentioned, I was sure that Aria had been as a patient there during the year she claimed to be in Iceland. I would have wanted her to know Bethany as well (and I am so pissed that they didn’t show her as an adult, because it lead us to believe she looked like someone we already knew from the show). I’ve read many PLL-theories but the ones considering Aria have been the most interesting ones. It sucks that I have not found any good fanfics where Aria is A without Ezra involved. At some point, I was sure that Wren was related to Scott and connected to Bethany as well.
The second “Big Bad” I was rooting the most for was Alison. It would’ve made so much sense for her to be A or/and to have a twin like in the books (her “redemption” always seemed really rushed, unbelievable and cliche to me). Especially on season 5, there were so many hints. If that had been the case, it would’ve been so amazing to see a spin-off of the past of the DiLaurentis-family. I would have been totally fine with this show to end at the end of season 5 or 6A with Alison or her twin being the final A. And with the fact that all of the Liars actually did something bad to whoever was getting his or her revenge on them. The flashback of the Liars’ first meeting would’ve been amazing to see as well.
Yes, this show ended long time ago, but I’ll always be bitter how so much potential was just thrown away. I guess I’ll just crawl back into my corner and continue re-reading all those amazing fan-theories and watching the fan-videos of this show.
