happy pride month to “actually, love can get crazier than that.”
Accidentally hurt myself by randomly thinking of Glinda combined to "Everybody's Fool."
how supernatural portrays love stories:
9.10 Road Trip
I explained the episode where cas gets conversion therapied into killing dean only for Dean to be able to break the brainwashing by saying “I need you” on his knees, and it really does sound. So absurd when you say it out loud
Me: so the episode starts with cas and Dean fighting, and Cas killing Dean and you’re like. What the fuck. And then the camera pans out and you just see hundreds of Dean bodies around him
Her: was it only Dean?
Me: yes it was only Dean
thinking about those s1 eps when john shows up and it's framed so that at first you're supposed to think it's a monster but then you're supposed to be relieved that it's only john stalking sam and dean. but like....
ever think about how the first thing dean does when john finally decides to show up again after ditching him for months is apologize...
DEAN: Hey! ...Dad? JOHN: Hey, boys. Hi, Sam. SAM: Hey, Dad. DEAN: Dad, it was a trap. I didn’t know, I’m sorry.
Like. it is. THE first thing he says......
john reunites with sam and dean three times (1.16, 1.20, 14.13) and each time he works to make amends with sam:
1.16
JOHN: Listen, Sammy, last time we were together, we had one hell of a fight. SAM: Yes, sir. JOHN: It’s good to see you again. It’s been a long time. SAM: Too long.
1.20
JOHN: I don't think I ever told you this but ... the day you were born, you know what I did? SAM: No. JOHN: I put a hundred bucks into a savings account for you. I did the same thing for your brother. It was a college fund. And every month I'd put in another hundred dollars, until... Anyway my point is, Sam, this is never the life that I wanted for you. SAM: Then why'd you get so mad when I left? JOHN: You gotta understand something. After your mother passed all I saw was evil, everywhere. And all I cared about was keeping you boys alive. I wanted you...prepared. Ready. Except somewhere along the line I ... uh ... I stopped being your father and I ... I became your, your drill sergeant. So when you said that you wanted to go away to school, all I could think about, my only thought was, that you were gonna be alone. Vulnerable. Sammy, it just... it never occurred to me what you wanted. I just couldn't accept the fact that you and me -- We're just different... What? SAM: We're not different. Not anymore. With what happened to Mom and Jess... (laughs) Well we probably have a lot more in common than just about anyone. JOHN: I guess you're right, son.
14.13
JOHN: Oh, she’s, uh, gettin’ your brother a shopping list. She’s gonna make that casserole of hers. SAM: Yeah, Dean and I tried to make that once. JOHN: I, um… I remember. I screwed up with you a lot, didn’t I? SAM: No, that’s okay. JOHN: No, it’s not. Sammy, tell me the truth. SAM: I don’t want to talk about that. JOHN: You didn’t have a problem talking about it before you left. SAM Dad… for me? That fight… that was a lifetime ago. I don’t even remember what I said, and – I mean… yeah. You know what? You did some messed-up things. But I don’t… I mean, when I think about you… [voice breaks] and I think about you a lot… I don’t think about our – our fights. I think about you… I think about you on the floor of that hospital. And I think about how I never got to say goodbye. JOHN: Sam. Son. I am so sorry. SAM: I’m sorry, too. But you did your best, dad. You – you fought for us, and you loved us, and… that’s enough.
but, with the exception of him apologizing to dean and then immediately reinforcing every pattern of behavior the apology meant to amend, he never acts like he needs to repair his relationship with dean. not even a simple apology for going no contact at the beginning of season 1.... not even for the fact that the reason dean doesn't have a peaceful life (14.13) is directly a result of his actions....
and keep in mind in 14.13, what john is apologizing to sam for is literally throwing away a meal that DEAN had tried to cook.....
but there's no part of john's relationship with dean he really tries to repair except as a the aforementioned deathbed confession (famously something you don't actually have to enact)...
it makes me gnash and chomp my teeth
can u imagine. how it felt to be dean winchester. yearning and pining for 12 years over your angel boy best friend. you asked him out on dates and he repeatedly turned you down. you flirted with him. you prayed to him every night. you kept his moldy trench coat in your car. you made him a mixtape. can you imagine how it felt to stand in front of him as he cried and said all these things about how great you are. and then he says the one thing I want. I know I can’t have. he says I LOVE YOU. (!!!!!!!!!!!!) GOODBYE DEAN. and then he DIES
I think the battle is long since lost on what the “-coded” suffix means, but I (old movie guy specifically invested in queer coding) seem to be unable to let go of how annoying I find the fuzzy popular use of the term. This is probably a flaw in my character.
Coding is intentional, it’s a way of communicating indirectly with the audience through a shared language of signs. That’s why it’s called coding, because it’s communicating in code. It isn’t when a thing reminds you of another thing.
“Why didn’t Dean just eat the spaghetti-o’s. Why did he throw them away?"
Because it wasn't about having to go hungry. It was never about rationing the food. It was about getting to be a kid for once.
Dean was a little boy, but he wasn't allowed to act like it. He was left alone at 10 years old for days to take care of a six year old and defend him with a sawed off shotgun that—when it came down to it—Dean was too scared to fire. He was 10 years old and he was Sam's nanny and meatshield. For once, he just wanted to feel like a kid. He wanted to feel like he deserved things. He wanted to be a kid who's allowed to want kid things. His rebellion against John in that episode was abandoning his role as Sam's guard dog to sneak out and play arcade games. His rebellion was acting like a child instead of a solider.
The Lucky Charms represented that same aching desire to just get to be a little boy. He was just as sick of Spaghetti-O's as Sam was. He'd been eating them anyway while Sam got the whole box of cereal. So Dean told himself "Dad won't put me first, but I will in this one tiny way. I'll at least get this one last bowl of kid's cereal. I'm allowed to want that. I'm allowed to have that, because I'm a kid too. I'm allowed to claim that for myself." It was a tiny piece of childhood Dean was trying to cling onto. But he gave it up in the end.
Throwing away the Spaghetti-O's was a consolation prize. It didn't make sense from a rational perspective, and that's the point. That's why he did it. He threw consequences to the wind, because a child often will when it comes to food and their pickiness about it (look at six year old's Sam's fickle taste in this very scene). If Dean doesn't get the Lucky Charms, at least he gets to be a picky little kid who would rather go hungry than eat something he didn't like.
Baby Sam—unexpectedly and unwittingly because he is too little to get any of this—ends this scene restoring to Dean a tiny piece of kidhood. He hands him the prize out of the cereal box. And that's what Dean remembers last.
you didn’t deserve any of this baby I’m gonna start screaming
Yes give me domestic destiel, but specifically give me a Cas who threatens to throw Dean back into hell because he drank the last of the coffee.
Cas who makes direct eye contact with Sam while drinking OJ out of the carton because he knows it pisses him off.
Cas who will use all the hot water despite knowing that other people want to use the shower.
Cas who when asked to take the trash out will look at Sam and say "surely you can take yourself out"
Give me the petty and bitchy Cas we love

the funny thing about wicked: for good is that the writers specifically didn't pull anything new from maguire's novel because the musical was already so different (besides name-dropping the gale force), yet somehow jon m chu and team has managed to stumble their way back into gregory's vision. ariana's glinda is more explicitly putting on a facade to hide the fact that she's Weird and Gay™ than her musical counterpart. chu says glinda and elphaba represent the O and the Z in oz respectively, which is ofc a reference to that moment in out of oz where rain and friends are looking at the grimmerie and see a figure imprisoned in a snow globe; the first guesses to who this figure is are glinda and elphaba. chu's talking about how gelphie need to grant each other salvation and describing the door scene as a vision from god is of course a return to the religiosity of book gelphie's relationship, and how they both at varying points view the other as a saint like figure who can offer them salvation
so jon m chu said that he included this shot as a reference to thelma and louise but in thelma and louise the two female leads kiss and decide they would rather drive off a cliff and die together than surrender to a patriarchal, oppressive system. and in wicked for good glinda gets shoved in a closet and elphaba runs off with a man. so in conclusion OIHREAWKFNDVINGERAJOOAGRERGOISGRINSRGJK3IOHWRVDFJ
