Crouched over by the riverbank in a pose not dissimilar to a crow’s, Peter’s gaze drifted aimlessly into the icy river with a slight frown. The stars of had begun reflecting in the water, but there were no fish there. Though somehow, he knew it wasn't his presence frightening them off, so he would tell himself for some time more that the fish had gone to a summer home of sorts, away from the layer of frost permeating the world. Peter wouldn’t blame them; he’d hate to live in a river so cold himself. The cold was bad enough, but constantly bathing in it would be worse. After a moment of staring, however, Peter realized there was a reflection in the water, and looked up to the stranger on the other side of the river with an air of bemusement.
“Hullo.” was all he said at first, standing up in place and waving from across the river. "Do you know where the fish are, since they don't seem to be home?"
And never once did it dawn on Peter that this given river simply might not have any fish in it.
