Arilux SL10 and AL SL09 outdoor solar lights

Just like the others they have 3 lighting modes and the most useful is the sensor mode, this enables you to charge during the night, then when it is dark it will activate when movement is detected. The other modes are ideal for all night path lighting and full flood as soon as it gets dark.

Not brighter but different.

They are not brighter but they are different. We see this as not an upgrade but instead a different beam spread. Being wider than before that means you can mount them closer to the ground and have a wider spread, so in a path, you could get away with fewer lights, in a larger area you don’t need to have so many too. Of course, this means the light is more spread out, so not as bright, but depending on the intended location and area you cover it can be set to provide enough brightness.

A Lamp With Mode Memory Function.

Arilux AL-TL01 Design.

Arilux’s AL-TL01 is a lamp with a simple design and a 7 level sliding dimmer control. It has a long thin bendable neck measuring about 41cm. The lamp is black, and it has a matte texture.

Light.

Its surface light source with the reflector, the light panel, and the diffusion plate, makes the light flicker-free and anti-glare, and suitable for protecting your eyes. The reflector ensures maximum light transmittance, the light panel distributes LED light evenly, and the diffusion plate creates a soft and comfortable output.

Its light can last for more than 40000 hours.

Brightness.

The light has 7 levels of brightness. Level 1 is the lowest level of brightness, and it’s suitable for sleeping. Levels 2, 3, and 4 are suitable while you’re dealing with leisure activities. Level 5 is suggested to be used while you’re reading. Level 6 is suitable for when you’re writing, and level 7 for handwork.

Sliding Dimmer Control.

On the base of the lamp you can see 8 red lights, those are the touch buttons. The first LED light is for turning the light on and off. You just need to press that area. You will see a LED indicator light when you turn the lamp on.

The lamp has a 30 minute auto timer. By holding the on/off button pressed for two seconds you can set the timer, and have the lamp turn off by itself after 30 minutes. When the timer turns on the LED indicator will start flashing.

The rest of the lights are for changing the levels of brightness. In order to do that you need to slide your finger from the left towards the right, and stop at the level of brightness you want to have on.

Mode Memory Function.

AL-TL01 has a mode memory function; it remembers the set lighting mode between on and off cycles.

The sensor light you can install yourself.

Its simple, it sticks on your wall and automatically turns on when you come near it, we’ve all heard of sensor lights before and unless you are looking for new lights I would move onto another article. If you are looking for a bit of extra light, Arilux offers an amazing value sensor light that, unlike other similarly priced lights actually appears well built and properly sealed. We received a sample and this is my review.

With my timing the AL101N it lasted 35 seconds once activated before turning off.

The Arilux offer a solid sealed and ready to install complete package.

Usually installing sensor lights either requires an electrician unless you go solar, which often is not bright enough for practical use the Arilux is powered by batteries so you still need to replace them however you have the benefit of simple installation and the freedom to move them around easily.

The AL101N comes in both white and warm white versions.

You may be asking why bathrooms and hallways, not only does it mean you don’t need to turn on the lights it also means if you need to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night you don’t need to use the main light, it is more gentle on your eyes and also wont disturb others.

How do motion sensors work?

The basic PIR motion sensor detects movement in an area by detecting IR radiation, that is your body heat.

The PIR sensor is the large  round metal component with the rectangle window on the front.

The sensor window has two “eyes” that monitor the area, when you cross the eyes it detects a sudden change and turns on the light.

These two windows are all the sensor can see, in the real world tho you need a sensor that can detect more than just two sections. In order to increase the coverage area a lens is placed in front of the sensor to split the 2 eyes into many directions, this is why all motion sensors have that weird multiangle plastic cover on the front of them. This is a cost effective way to easily increase the sensor area of a single sensor.

The sensors two eyes are split by the cover lens to cover almost the whole area in front of the sensor.

Mounting the AL101

You can either stick it on or screw it in, generally it is recommend you use the screws if you are putting outside or intending for a long term fix. Both are included so either way you are ready.

The manual is surprisingly English and simple and easy to read.

  What we saw inside the Arilux light : The teardown

The AriluX is simply constructed and all it takes to get inside is 4 Phillips screws and then the two parts of the case separate.

The waterproofing

It is IP45 rated and stands up to that claim, it has rubber seals on both the case and the battery cover, it should easily survive splashes and moisture.

The Motion and Light sensor

It is a PIR motion sensor that can accurately sense movement, I tested in the audio studio in the dark and would detect movement in the whole room (about 3 meters) so the range is enough to ensure it is on just before you need it.

The second component on the board is the light sensor, this is simple and just monitors the light level, when it reaches a certain darkness it activates the sensor.

The LED

A single .5W 10 lumen LED is directly aimed down towards the white reflective surface.
