“What has disturbed my little mouse so that she would leave my bed?”
Of course she wouldn’t be lucky enough for Raphael not to notice her absence. It was a tiring thing sometimes to be the object of a devil’s obsession. Despite her own feelings, she wouldn’t call his love in the traditional sense given Raphael’s nature. Infatuation would be more accurate, if there had to be a label. Though Ari was never big on those.

Even at night, Avernus ran hot.
Not that time as Ari understood it really existed there. The sky stayed the same fiery red regardless of material plane sun and moon cycles.
The heat wasn’t nearly as bothersome as the sulfur in the air. That permeated her senses til her eyes burned, her nose wrinkled and throat became scratchy. This time, it also served as a reminder of what she’d just woken up from.
Ari cupped the water of the restoration pool, splashing it against her face. Her hands clenched, fingers digging into her palms. She needed to breathe in, but breathing in steam infused with sulfur air just brought her back to her home on fire, pinned under a beam as raiders went after her brother and sister, butchering them right in front of her. Freeing herself, coughing and struggling to stay awake, looking away from their bloodied bodies til she dragged them outside. Finally falling to her knees and retching upon seeing her parents’ bodies in as just a bloodied state.
Her family gone.
She’d failed all of them.
Ari started at the sudden hands on her shoulders.
“What has disturbed my little mouse so that she would leave my bed?”

Though Ari was never big on those.
“I’ll be fine.”
“Tut-tut, dear.” He lowered himself smoothly behind her, resting his head on top of hers. “I thought we agreed never to lie to each other.”
