Arjuna Beta by Fynn Jamal
This song took me like 1-2 hours of scrolling through youtube history. I got it in my head at midnight that I MUST put this song on my apple music. But I couldn't remember anything about it.
I couldn't remember the title, the lyrics, the singer's name. Just that I heard it on radio, and saw it on youtube. It was released probably in 2013 or 2014.
What struck me the most as I listened to the song were the interesting choice of words for the lyrics -
Words I associated with a lost age of Malay romanticism literature (Malay lit students, don't kill me pls). And I remembered that this particular word was taken from sanskrit, and usually was used as a hero's name in old movies.
Yet I couldn’t remember the words.
So in the middle of the night, I texted a few people - literally “Hey do you know this Malay word from Sanskrit that could mean “hero”?”
I also asked “Do you know this song about a mother telling the son not to be scared or not to cry. The singer is a female, she has a unique voice. She’s a Singaporean (I was wrong, btw, she’s Malaysian).”
Trying to remember this song drove me nuts.
Then I found out - or rather was reminded that Youtube remembers our watch history, and for once, in my life, I am greatful for Google’s overzealous personal-space-infringing tracking.
After 1-2 hours of scrolling past makeup tutorials, BTS videos, etc. I finally found the song.
