Is that Ron Perlman? I think it might be Ron Perlman! Please let it be Ron Perlman...
Full trailer for Arkham Origins hitting on Monday. If Deathstroke talks and he's not Ron Perlman, I'm going to blog so bad about Warner Bros. Games Montreal.
Kevin Conroy is not Batman in Arkham Origins
You may remember I made a post about Batman: Arkham Origins back when it was first announced. Well, we recently caught wind that acclaimed Batman veteran Kevin Conroy who voiced the character in the previous two Arkham games will not be reprising his role. So, what do I think of this? Well, settle down and I shall tell you of my unpopular opinion.
The truth is I'm not bothered at all that Kevin Conroy will not be lending his voice to the Dark Knight this time around. I mean, we are dealing with a young Batman seeing as this game is about Batman just after he first became Batman. It makes sense not to have a badass, experienced, and battle-worn Batman voice like Mr. Conroy provides.
"But Woods," I hear you say as you sharpen your Batarang and prepare to brutalise me for speaking ill of Kevin Conroy, "Kevin Conroy was a great young Batman in Mask of the Phantasm!" Indeed he was, but I think the thing people seem to forget is that that was a long time ago. By the time Origins hits in October, it will have been two months shy of 20 years since Mask of the Phantasm and a lot happens to your voice over two decades.
Kevin is not the spry young 37 year old he once was and if you listen to his Batman voice from that era and compare it to his Arkham voice, it sounds noticeably older (as does Mark Hamill's Joker). Not to mention, bringing in some new Bat-talent will likely be good for the fandom as Kevin will most certainly not be able to play the Caped Crusader forever and the sooner we can find him a replacement, the sooner Bat-fans will be able to get used to a new Batman (no, Bruce Greenwood cannot be a long-term replacement for Kevin seeing as they're basically the same age).
The other argument against this I've heard is that replacing a major character's voice actor will completely ruin the game and screw with the intricate continuity of the series like what we saw between Asylum and City.
This confuses me because is this actually people legitimately forgetting that they replaced Arleen Sorkin with Tara Strong during the transition from Asylum to City or what? You'd think if replacing a major character was such a huge deal that would ruin the game, it would have impacted Arkham City a bit more and there would have been more freak-outs and boycotts like people are talking about now.
Either way, I think we should give whoever this new Batman is going to be the benefit of the doubt and judge him on his own merits. He could surprise you. Now, if we're going to talk about role reprisals, let's please start talking about this guy as this guy.
Well, here's the announcement "trailer" for the third game in the acclaimed, Arkham franchise, Batman: Arkham Origins. In all honesty, I'm not sure how to feel. On the one hand, did you see those conceptual drawings in the video? Maybe it's just me, but that one of the snow-covered Gotham alone looked incredible.
I know this may be a weird thing to get excited about, but the inclusion of a snowy area in anything is a surefire way to get on my good side (a clock tower is also a good way to get me excited). Not to mention, Deathstroke! However, on the other hand, Rocksteady isn't behind this and that's setting off major red flags for me.
Now, maybe I'm wrong and Warner Bros. Games Montreal ends up hitting this out of the park, but I'm definitely apprehensive and will have to wait to see what the general consensus is before actually buying the game. But back to Deathstroke, his inclusion, and his voice actor. Warner Bros., if you want to get me on board with this game, you know who to call...
The new batman will be called Batman:Arkham Origins
surely they can give a better name then this! And I'm honestly not interested in its origins.
I agree. Justice League get your own game!
