Katsa and Bitterblue ! I love their interaction in the book. Katsa hugging Bitterblue.
And...apparently Giddon had a twin we didn’t know about who died when he was 15. Nice that we get little bits of info of his life that wasn’t in the first book. Also that part where he lost his estate and wished his bother had lived instead , pretty interesting on how Arlend was described as ‘’ he might not have been a fair landlord nor would he have provoked the king.’‘
Ha! got me thinking of an Au where Arlend survived. Their relationship was still strained and Giddon join the council while Arlend is remain Randa’s lord. Brother vs Brother. > : D
So, after mentioning it in that little "five random things" about myself post, I have kind of wanted to discuss my story. Its like I had a child that I was hiding from the world because of fear of criticism that I suddenly want to brag about because the story is my baby.
Description: Arlend is the story of Kern, whom was cast out of his world and forced into a version of our world. The story is set (for the most part) in Florence, Italy during the Renaissance (around 1400 for a historical time frame). Now, before you dismiss this story as another ugly child in the room for being historical fiction, you need to know that this book is primarily a fantasy novel. I like to call this story dark historical fantasy. Essentially, when Kern is sent from his world into a version of ours, he is reincarnated into the body of a young boy, who then has to grapple with this ordeal that he is thrust into, as Kern’s shadow half pursues the boy to bring back an ancient evil power from his and Kern’s world - Arlend.
Time Frame: I mentioned that my goal has always been to finish this story before I completely finish my bachelor degrees. Lucky for my story I'm taking an extra year to finish a third degree (I already have degrees in Human-Environment Relations and Liberal Arts, now I'm finishing a Biology degree). The story is split into three parts, so I am aiming for certain parts to be finished at certain times:
Part One: Kern - Already completed.
Part Two: Zak - I have already completed a handful of chapters for this part, but I still have more chapters to go. I hope to have this part completed by the end of October. November at the very latest if I get busy with school work.
Part Three: Arlend - I have not yet completed anything for this part, but I have it all plotted out to begin. This part is by far the longest, so hopefully that will not throw off time estimates. I hope to begin in November and then have it finished by the end of April.
Style: I switch between first and third person. If people follow any of my works (which would be hard to do because I do not have many out there to look at besides a few short stories and then academic stuff), they would know that I love to play with style and change it up mid-story. For Arlend, all chapters from Kern's point of view are first person, and then anything from Lorenzo or anyone else's point of view are third person. I do have progression and method to my madness, though, so it does not seem all weird and awkward.
Mental Casting (or PBs): SURPRISINGLY I do not have any PBs picked out for this story. Which is weird because Appetence (my trilogy that I'm also working on) is almost completely casted out. I hope to also have some mental casting, for anyone that is interested, picked out here soon.
