There are many things I will never overcome and one of them is the end of shingeki no kyojin!
Every time I see something relating to the last chapter makes me feel sad, it's amazing how affected it left me.
Making this drawing at the beginning I said to myself: "yes I can!" But just starting I started crying, I had a little reference image and I really couldn't see it without crying 。:゚(;´∩`;)゚:。
A/N: I haven’t written for Attack on Titan in such a long while! For those who don’t know, I’m in the process of writing for everyone in my masterlist because 1) why not and 2) it builds character I guess lol. I spin a wheel to decide what character to write for, then I spin another wheel that gives me a prompt theme. Today’s piece is Armin with Y/N who has nervous tics. But I guess these aren’t tics as much as they are just nervous habits. Oh well. Needless to say I went ecstatic for this one because I’m a simp for characters comforting reader with nervous tics/habits because I struggle with them! Anyway I hope y’all like this one <3
Prompt/s Used: rubbing/fidgeting with their hands / Humming / Avoiding eye contact / Leg shaking
It wasn’t unusual for you to sit on the sidelines of a conversation, so to say. You were relatively quiet, only speaking up when you needed to. You were much more of a listener, which is maybe why you got along so well with Armin and his friends. Eren or Mikasa would give commands and you rarely fought back, even if you didn’t agree with them.
Armin knew all of this, yet was still intrigued as he studied your body language one night. The four of you were outside after dinner, sitting around a small campfire just outside HQ, enjoying the cool night’s breeze. Armin was sitting beside you, close enough that your legs would brush every now and then. Mikasa and Eren sat across from you, arguing about something Armin could only assume Eren said incorrectly. If he were to be honest, he stopped listening when he first noticed your change in behavior just before the other two began arguing.
You kept rubbing at your hands, roughly running one thumb over the other hand’s palm before switching, attempting to crack your knuckles every so often. Your gaze was downcast, almost as if you had zoned out a while ago. You nervously bounced the leg closest to his, creating a soft ruffling sound as your pants brushed against his. Low hums came from you every so often, increasing in length and volume as time passed.
Armin could practically feel the anxiety radiating from you and it worried him. You first met him and the others when you all were first training to be scouts, and here you were, somehow best friends with the group. Regardless, Armin had never seen you like this before. His warm hand rested on the knee of your shaking leg, giving it a gentle squeeze to try and catch your attention. Your leg stilled.
You hummed gently as you shook your head sharply. You closed your eyes for a second before turning your head slightly to meet Armin’s gaze. He offered you a soft smile. “Hi.” You only hummed in response, wringing your hands even harder together. Armin gently replaced the hand on your knee with his other one, sliding his now free hand in between yours. He laced his fingers through yours and rubbed his thumb gently across your skin. “What’s wrong?”
You shook your head, taking a deep breath. You averted your gaze again, quickly looking over to where Mikasa and Eren’s argument was getting even more heated, voices growing louder and louder. You hummed again. Armin noticed your movements, slowly connecting the dots.
“Are they making you anxious?”
You nodded.
“Here. Come with me.” Armin didn’t let go of your hand, even as he helped you stand and led you back into the main building. Most soldiers were retreating to their rooms, leaving the main gathering room quiet, aside from small whispers passed between friends. Armin guided you to sit on an empty couch, pulling you to rest against his side. The arm draped around your shoulders provided you with little comfort.
Upon feeling so vulnerable, you subconsciously began bouncing your leg again. Your humming picked up and your eyes filled with tears. Armin only noticed when you avoided his eyes again, turning your head just enough that the light from a nearby lantern highlighted the tears falling against your skin.
“Honey, don’t cry,” he coos as he hugs you tighter. “You’ve been feeling this way for a while, haven’t you?” When you nodded, his heart sank. “Oh, love. Just let it out, ok?”
Your head fell to his chest as you curled in on yourself, legs thrown over Armin’s. You were beyond grateful for his understanding, taking this opportunity to let your stims and tics take over. It felt nice, letting it all out after suppressing it for such a long time. You felt better about the situation knowing that Armin was with you, and this wasn’t happening around anyone else.
You eventually calmed down, hands folded between Armin’s and your humming long ceased. Your eyes drooped closed, exhaustion taking over you. Events such as these never fail to leave you weak and tired.
You felt Armin’s head rest against yours, a soft kiss quickly pressed to the crown of your head. “Do you feel better?” His voice was soft and comforting.
“Much,” you replied quietly. “Thank you. I needed that.”
“Of course, love. Anytime you feel this way, find me. I don’t mind, I promise.”
You nodded one last time before closing your eyes for good, dozing off against the chest of the man holding you.
It's actually a challenge between me and my two artist friends to draw each others' favourite characters, check my Instagram and Tiktok to see their fanarts once they're posted tonight! (other characters, including my favourite are a secret ;) )
This is Armin, Ari's favourite. I hope they like how it came out.
