It’s about time I say something about Bannerman in the wake of releasing the extended edition of my YouTubers video. The developer Michael Vansleve a.k.a. Armitage Games has been documenting the development of Bannerman on his YouTube channel in a show called Just Make Game. Actually, the game got released in August so the series is now called Just Made Game.
Bannerman is a fighting game that boasts historically accurate treatment of its topic. While the platformless side-view movement couldn’t be closer to the 80s (a plus!), the animations are very much alive in 90s rotoscoped fashion. The trailer has a few killing verbs too many for my taste (I’m guessing historically accurate as well), but I could play it on repeat just for the great music.
As my preamble about YouTubers hints at, I’m even more entertained with Michael’s video output. Besides documenting the game’s creation, he made a handful of great tutorials on topics such as marketing on a $0 budget, rotoscoping, and dithering.
If you’re a fan of medieval times and fighting games, definitely put Bannerman on your December buy list. It’s even 34% off right now at just $10 on Steam (Windows only).
