‘ c’mon athens, line ‘em up again lets get going. you aren’t even breaking a sweat yet. ’ he teases, tugging his gloves back on his hands and running fingers through his hair -- he stands across from him in the sparring ring; most of the other fighters have already gone up to their bunks for the night, but these two had spent longer hours training together. it helped keep their minds busy, but they nearly never talked about it. it wasn’t cain’s main goal to go too deep emotionally -- he just appreciated the company. ‘ take your best shot. ’
kreihid / lance: ok daddy --!
shiro: no, not daddy. i’m the nice pilot that wants to be your friend! ok?

He lost track of how many days he’d been searching for Shiro -- THE REAL SHIRO on his own. No one would believe him if he said anything. No one knew Shiro like he did, no one knew how much Shiro meant to him. He’d known it all along, that the Shiro that they’d found was a fake. The way his eyes didn’t light up the moment they saw Keith’s, he knew that wasn’t the man he loved.
He’d traced everything back to a small galra fleet. The middle of nowhere, but here he was. Him and the black lion, just trying to figure out where his boyfriend went. He hadn’t bothered to say goodbye when he left, he’d made sure he wouldn’t run into anyone. He’d let all the comm lines run dead, hadn’t said a word to anyone. He couldn’t.
The galra wouldn’t be expecting him to come alone, they wouldn’t expect him to deliver the black lion right to them. All he knew was that the real Shiro, HIS SHIRO, was on that ship somewhere and he would tear it apart to find him.
He hid the black lion on a nearby moon and propelled himself towards the ship with the land pod. ( it wasn’t the brightest idea but it’s all he had ) He had barely made the jump but there he was, undetected, on a galra prison ship. He didn’t have Pidge to bring up the blueprints, he didn’t have Lance to watch his back. He was here by himself and he had to be careful.
Every step he took was filled with trepidation that one wrong move and he’d be done for, that voltron would be done for. In hindsight he knew that doing this wasn’t the greatest idea, but he couldn’t keep living like he was before. Seeing a Shiro that wasn’t his every day, seeing a Shiro that wasn’t his pretend to be his KILLED HIM. That’s what brought him to standing outside the door of the maximum security cells.
His skin was on fire, like he could feel Shiro in the air. His gut was telling him not to open the door, his gut was telling him that if he opened the door he wouldn’t like what he was going to find. Yet he pushed forward. Seeing Shiro, THE REAL SHIRO, bound against a table, with two guards standing next to him. Of course he’d be guarded, of course this wouldn’t be easy.
Two guns are drawn and one is placed next to Shiro’s head and the other is pointed right between Keith’s eyes. He stands there, motionless. Hands at his side clearly empty. Bayard not drawn, waiting for them to speak. ❝ You want him? ❞ One of them spoke in a tone that held nearly no emotion. ❝ The black lion. ❞ Of course they knew he’d brought a lion, but they didn’t know he had black. Or at least he thought until he saw the footage show itself across a screen. They would have the black lion in minutes if Keith didn’t do something.
❝ Take it. ❞ They hadn’t thought that Keith would surrender so easily. He could tell Shiro was protesting, even though he couldn’t speak. He could feel him telling Keith to run away, to leave. To put voltron first. That’s when the gun dropped from Shiro’s head. That’s when Keith had to strike.
Seconds dragged on like hours. His bayard is in his hand and out of it again pinning one of the guards to the wall, the other is tackled. The pistol that was dropped on the ground is now picked up. He hates that he has to do this, but he doesn’t have a choice. Two bullets are shot off in that room. He’d love to take his time helping Shiro out, but he know he that’s time he doesn’t have. He’s quick to help Shiro up and nearly carries him out of the room, avoiding all further guards. The alarms hadn’t been set of thank quiznak.
It was when he got back to the land pod and getting back to the moon that caused him some problems. Keith had his jet pack but he knew that it wouldn’t be able to fully support both their weights. He hasn’t given Shiro a chance to speak yet, hasn’t had a chance to answer. He was too busy trying to get out of there alive.
❝ Fuck it. ❞ He guns it. Both of them on the land pod and his jet pack going at full blast he didn’t expect them to make it, but they barely do. Skidding across the ground of the planet he pulls Shiro into the black lion and guns it as far away from the galra fleet as possible.
He doesn’t know where to take him. He can’t just show up back at the castle without a plan. He can’t just let Shiro waltz in there and find another Shiro had taken his place. Yet he had to relish the small chance he had to be alone. Maybe find a planet and let Shiro heal up for a bit. Let him regroup. Let him finally have some real rest.
