Explaining my sexual identity
Since I’m demisexual, my explanation is different to other aces, since I do actually feel some attraction, just very rarely.
I describe it like this; everyone is ‘dead’ to me, or 'cold’, so I don’t see them as being sexually attractive, I don’t see people and desire them or anything. But when I get to know people, and being to feel attraction (on the rare times that happens) I describe it as those people 'warm up’, and I can see that they are attractive, and I can desire them.
So, In very basic terms, I say to my friends, You’re dead to me. But sometimes you warm up and I like you. But not often. To those who still don’t get it, or have a very, very limited understanding of sexualities, I just say 'friends, I’m attracted to friends.’ Which, whilst technically true, dosn’t really capture or properly explain my feelings.
This is a very basic explanation, and in no way how I would actually explain it to educated people, or in a serious conversation. I just use this explanation to uneducated people who don’t get it.

I'm asexual, but I'm not...
I’m ace spec, so I rarley experience sexual attraction. but I’m not broken. It’s just part of who I am.
I’m demisexual, but that dosn’t mean I become friends with the purpose of dating people.
I’m demiromantic, but that dosn’t mean that I automatically love all of my friends and want to date them.
I’m ace spec, but that dosn’t mean I hate sex or am sex repulsed. My sexual identity dosn’t equal how I feel about sex.
I’m aro spec, but that dosn’t mean I can’t feel love, and don’t want to feel love. My romantic identity dosn’t equal how I feel about love and relationships.
I’m aro/ace spec, but that dosn’t mean I’m straight, or ‘not gay’ enough for the lgbt+ community.
I abstain from sex because I don’t have a strong desire for it, but that dosn’t mean I am celibate. My religious views on sex, as a Catholic, and my views on sex, as an asexual, have nothing to do with each other.
I’m demisexual, but that dosn’t mean I want to have sex with all my friends. That’s not how it works.
I’m demisexual, but that dosn’t mean I’m ‘normal’ just because I only crush on people I know. There’s a difference between choosing to only date people you’re close with, and literally feeling no attraction unless you’re close with them.
I’m ace spec, but that dosn’t mean I have no sex drive, or am sex repulsed. Some asexual’s are, and thats fine. Some are not, and that is also fine. My lack of sexual attraction dosn’t mean I can never desire sex.
I’m asexual. And Proud.
