mostly the fact that it's become the fandom version of "no homo"
like, i can understand enjoying a relationship between characters only in a platonic sense? but when i make a thing meant to be interpreted as romantic and i see tags like "brotp: x"/"i don't ship it but"/"i ship [other thing] but"/etc, it comes off to me as "i like this thing you made but no homo" and i'm sitting here like "no. stop. it is homo. i am making this homo. love urself." not to mention, it's not a coincidence i see this WAY more in the tags on my sam/s.teve edit than anything ste.ve/bucky, like gee, i wonder why that could be
plus the term itself annoys me because like. there's no equivalent of "brotp" or "bromance" that's gender neutral? it's like, these terms are supposed to detail some higher form of friendship reserved for a man and his bro, and if you don't identify as a bro, you are not included. like, come on, they can just call it a friendship, same as everyone else. there's even "queerplatonic" in some instances. relationships that include people who are not men are already devalued enough without men getting a special punny term for it.
plus i'm not above admitting that i can occasionally get a bit snippy with people (especially just strangers) who make an effort to point out that they don't ship what i ship where i can see it. yeah.
