Stage 2: Exploration of material and objects to recreate experience (form)

Taking further the same we initially planned on making a headgear with elements that would replicate the feel of Pagoda. Since headgear would be an enclosed experience, we moved to the exploration of Buddhist holy water bowl.

We researched about the holy water bowl. Referring to the book of ‘Life of A Zen’ we learnt that the monks do not believe in materialistic approach towards religion. They do not believe in the concept of ‘idol worship’. We were required to created an ambience of calm and comfort. Listing down the requirements for the same, the final installation would be of two rooms creating contrast scenarios.

THE VIPASSANA PAGODA : First journey

For project 3, we were asked to choose a religious place in Mumbai. We had always heard of the Buddhist belief based Pagoda in Gorai and this was our chance to explore it’s ambience. 

So we documented our journey  and experience through pictures and videos.  To sum all this up for our classmates and faculty, we converted our data into a documentary.

Stage 3: Working with final material and Final model

We chose variant materials like Metal sheet, Fur and Thin sponge which we converted into cones, strips, belts, jacket, attachment, etc. For the same, we use glue gun, araldite, fevi-quick as well as rivets to make one single wearable out of these parts.

The final wearable had two variant materials and one common material i.e. Fur. We chose a pastel color for the fur to let the essence of innocence flow through it. The opacity of materials used for individual personality depiction i.e. sponge sheet and metal depict the transparency of the stabbed and the stabber.

Stage 1: sketching and prototyping

The gesture that we chose is ‘Back Stabbing’, which is very personal to us. A scary part of stepping out of school into college or higher studies is making friends and trusting people become really tough. Most of us survive the wave but for some the experience is disturbing. Taking this situation into consideration, we have incorporated it as a Gesture of Backstabbing.
