Streetlamps hum like they're tired too casting that dull orange halo over cracked sidewalks and empty bottles

Milwaukee breathes different at night quieter, but not quite peaceful like it's thinking about something it doesn't want to say out loud

I walk past shuttered bars still leaking ghosts of laughter voices clinging to brick walls like smoke that never cleared

the lake wind cuts through everything doesn't care who you are just slides its cold fingers under your jacket and reminds you you're alive

A bus hisses somewhere distant one car rolls by too slow bass rattling the windows of a closed-down laundromat

Neon flickers on, off, on like it can't decide if it's worth staying awake

I keep moving not going anywhere, really just around the block again like maybe something will change if I trace the same lines enough times

Footsteps echo different at night louder like the city's listening keeping count of who's still out here and who already went home

There's a kind of honesty in empty streets no distractions, no cover just you and whatever you've been avoiding all day

I pass the same corner twice same busted sign same flicker of light and realize the city isn't changing I'm just circling what I don't want to face

So I light a cigarette I don't even want watch it burn down quicker than it should and keep walking anyway

Around the block again and again like there's something out tere waiting for me

or like I'm hoping there isn't

i was half expecting Christina Ricci's character Dino Chalmers was gonna end up with Mr. Graham (bcs u know how they love to make gay characters straight) but was pleasantly surprised when a future rekindling of romance for Dino and Kate was showed
