A big Thank You to everyone who made suggestion on my bird quilt. Although most suggested sashing in contrasting colour, the only other colour I had was a) light and b) I didn’t want to buy more fabric, so I went with the hidden 9-patch. I think it helped, especially with the first border added. Now it’s easier to see what is meant to be the background.

Uhh a deity of wealth and trade, particularly when concerning fishermen. Associated closely with storms and protection from them. 

He likes offerings of fish (naturally) though will also accept coins and cat toys. I can’t imagine him having huge dedicated places of worship, maybe more little shrines -- he’d be a bigger figure among cat creatures and merfolk.

It is done, done, done! Buttons were the trickiest part - it’s been forever since I’ve done any hand sewing and I did a botch job. “Congrats, little buddy, no one ever did it that bad” went through my head the whole time but now the buttons are on and the cardi is ready to wear!

Now for the weather to turn warm enough so that we don’t need jackets…

I fussy-cut the birds out (birb!) and boy, did I fussy about it. I got 20 squares with birds and some strips I’ll use in borders.

The squares ended up being 4.5” squares instead of 5” as I planned. But that turned out for the best, because now I won’t have to Frankenstein pink fabric into correct size. Remember those 9” by the WOF pieces that I got? Usually what is advertised at 9” would have about 8.5” usable fabric. But thanks to the Sew Jo’s very straight cutting, both pieces were actually between 9 and 1/8” to 9 and 1/4 inch wide. After cutting two strips of 4.5”, this is all that was left!

About the pattern though. It will definitively be lots of squares.

One of the vendors at the quilting show I attended in May was selling fat quarters for under $2 each. Although I’m usually a cool-colour-preferably-purple kind of person, this time I was attracted to the vintage looking fabric, mostly brownish, greenish and taupeish. I got 14 fat squares, but that wan’t enough for a full quilt. I added a few fabrics from my stash, and found a nice matching fabric for a background. Pattern is a simple square-in-square. This is a first time I took pains to do a proper quilting on my regular sewing machine and am very pleased with the result.

a productive evening. I used my favourite “stack and whack” method to make five placemats. Well, only tops for now. Once done they will be donated to the Meals on Wheels as presents to seniors.

the light in the basement is not best but then neither is the light in the living room. Colours just don’t show nicely
