yo yo yo, how did you come up w/ your muses? :0
OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BOOOYYYYYYY i hope u got time bc this is a TALE my dude
once upon a time i made a shitty oc. terrible oc. like, cringe central. but he was my first oc! his name was alex kazama and i loved him, my little angsty, edgy genetically enhanced soldier.
i stopped rp’ing as alex on the forum i used (for over five years) and eventually made the switch to ff, then here on tumblr. i decided to split the personalities of alex into more separate, believeable entities.
renji got alex’s compassion, kindness, empathy, but also the emotional trauma and issues. i wanted one of them to truly experience loss - to have been so low so they can truly appreciate the ups. originally, these were all rwby oc’s, save for rimu, so i was able to say grimm ate mah parents for renny boy.
afton got the not-so-nice traits. the anger, the bloodlust, the resentment towards humanity and the pessimism.
but when i made the switch to fandomless? that’s when i got creative.
i wanted them to be close. i wanted something closeknit, something tight, something where one played off the other. i wanted to write something like… i dunno - i really liked playing two-player games with my brother - this analogy is gonna sound silly. i liked the cameraderie i had with him, the working together, the helping each other when one of us couldn’t do something.
i wanted that. but i wanted to write it.
renji and afton need each other, and i wanted to explore the healthy - and unhealthy - dynamics of that kind of relationship. i wanted afton to be someone who had this exterior of tough as nails, untrusting, willing to kill at a moments notice but doing it out of fear - fear of losing the one good thing in his life, the one thing he felt responsible for.
and i wanted renji to explore freedom, life and what it had to offer, even though he was plagued with terrible emotional and mental trauma. i wanted renji to still see the light in life, see the things that afton couldn’t and help him see that, even if he is a stubborn brat sometimes.
i wanted to write about these two young men who felt real, who felt important to someone, who felt like they needed to help and protect each other no matter the cost.
i wanted to write about family.
