Ok, I watched Karigurashi no Arietti this weekend:

And I keep saying it: I love the so many different ways in which Ghibli portrays her female characters. Arriety, Mononoke and Naussica are strong, determined, adventuress girls. Arriety's mom is like... something different, next to the opposite (but not the opposite): home's woman, who doesn't like that much to be outside of her house. And that's good too! Because there are women like her. I have watched five movies from Ghibli and in each one the women are always different and magical and real!

Sho is a expression of peace even in the darkest times, but also the expression of the sad reality of those people who lost the desire to live. That's why the end was... there was light in my heart. And I cried again. It was so powerful.

A lesson from this movie? Never give up. You are never alone.
