So I was studying bokoblin weapons earlier today, when I came across some of the arrows used in one of the LoZ games (I think it's HW? not entirely sure, though), and it hurt just looking at them, because barbed? really? That's just a new level of evil
Warning: The next paragraph describes the mechanics and effects of barbed arrows (injuries). Skip to the end of the brackets to avoid.
(For anyone not versed in Arrow, a barbed arrow has an arrow head that's usually wider than the shaft, and occasionally has hooks at the base of the head or along the shaft. The wide head makes the wound larger, so that the target bleeds out quicker. The hooks make the arrow difficult to pull out the way it entered without tearing the wound internally. They were generally used for hunting, so the prey would fall sooner due to blood loss, and be unable to accidentally rip the arrow out. As far as I understand, if you do want to remove the arrow, your best bet would probably be to remove the fletching and push the entire thing out on the other side, but that'll only open the wound more and make you bleed out even quicker. These things are evil.)
Anyways, I then had to subject one of the boys to them, and I already wanted to draw Shadow, Green, and Blue, so here we are!
(Thoughts below)
I very much think Green would try to deal with his injuries on his own. Not out of distrust or any heroic idea of "it's just a scratch, I'll walk it off" — he's very aware that injuries need to be tended to as soon as possible, and has a generally good idea of an injury's severity. He just doesn't want anyone else to feel like they're causing him even more pain while treating him — especially not his closest friends — and has a history of stitching his own wounds
Red and Vio think it's ridiculous, but Blue gets it. If I remember correctly from the manga (it's been a while, so please bear with me), Blue chooses to make an attack against Link's mind-controlled father so that the rest won't have to. He thinks the attack is fatal, and doesn't want the rest to carry the consequent guilt. So not wanting anyone to feel like they're causing more pain? Not wanting anyone to have that on their conscience? I think Blue would get it. He would stay close and keep potions ready (because of course his pouches are full of them), but he would get it
I don't know if Shadow would get it — at least not at first. I think he would see a desire for independence — maybe even stubbornness — and be infuriated, because it seems like Green is putting himself in even more danger (which, well, it’s not entirely untrue). In time, maybe he would start to see. It seems to me like Shadow has strong protective senses; he wants to keep those he cares about safe, both as a way of proving himself, and as a way of ensuring no one is left alone. Through this lens, he might start to understand. He might not be pleased about it, but he understands
Edit: First and second paragraph under the cut were switched around.
Charlie: Look, if you win Charlie’s loyalty, the girl will take a bullet for you. She is ride or die for her friends, yeah? On the reverse, though, once you lose her trust it’s probably broken forever. (I say probably because I think there are some circumstances in which it could be won back.)
Arrow: Arrow...
It’s better I answer this pre-amnesia, because post, things are still fuzzy for her.
Pre-amnesia, Arrow is very loyal. But her loyalty is different than Charlie’s. Charlie, if she fell in with the wrong people, could be easily led down the wrong path. She follows with her heart, not always her brain. (For all that she tries, poor thing.) Arrow, on the other hand, doesn’t let her heart make decisions for her, though she still listens to it.
The other thing, too, about Arrow is that there are some people that she... for lack of better phrasing, values more than others. Her brother is at the top of that list. If it came to choosing him or her teammates, she might hesitate for a split second, but she would choose her brother*. She’d feel terrible about it, would carry the guilt for the rest of her days... but she wouldn’t regret it. She’d regret having to choose, would regret the decisions leading up to that... but not the decision itself.
*Well, at least she would choose her brother how she remembers him. Meeting up with him again might mean things are a bit different....
Charlie had a stuffed spaceship she carried around everywhere has a child. She named it after her parents ship, the Ingenuity, but couldn’t say that at first, so she usually called it Engine Noo Tee. She still owns the ship.
Her favorite color is purple. She likes both really dark purples and pastel ones. She tends more towards bluish purple but any shade is fine.
She was Not Shy as a kid, and you had to keep a close eye on her or she’d go running off to greet strangers she thought looked interesting. Sometimes this meant accidental insults in the case of unfamiliar aliens.
When she was a preteen, she went through a phase where she wanted to be a cyborg something awful. She still thinks it’s cool, but now that she understands how you become a cyborg, she’s decided it’s not something she’ll be actively pursuing.
Arrow:
Her favorite color is pink! But she also really likes turquoise. Fortunate, since those are her two main colors. Red makes her feel a pang of loss, sorrow, affection, and need, for some reason. Ice blues calm her.
The first thing Arrow does after moving into Shuggazoom City is buy herself some plants. She starts with succulents, but after that, her room slowly becomes a jungle.
She likes perching on high places. It makes her feel safe.
And… let’s do preamnesia for this one 😉 As a smol, she used to carry her baby brother on her back, the way her mother did her sometimes. She thought it was great fun to lug him around the tribe and use her best teacher’s voice to tell him about their way of life. She never did quite grow out of trying to teach him things.
How are copycat robot monkeys like Arrow different from the Hyperforce robot monkeys?
Excellent question!
It depends on the monkey. Arrow was modeled off of the Hyper Force. She was a deliberate copycat. But, because she was mass produced, her cybernetic parts are weaker and more prone to glitching! She also doesn’t have all of the extra bits—she has some different ones. Like for instance, instead of a fan in her tail, she has a blade.
6. Does your OC have an unrealistic view of some area of their life or worldview?
Arrow doesn’t know who she was before, and she’s afraid to know. She’s afraid of finding out that maybe, she was a bad person. She also doesn’t believe anyone is out there looking for her. (Or maybe she just tells herself that to avoid feeling guilty for hiding away.) She believes that she’s safe in the forest.
Charlie is of an age and personality where it can be hard to connect with her classmates. This has led to the belief that she just doesn’t quite fit in on Shuggazoom, and that maybe, she belongs in the stars. Charlie also has a difficult time letting people in all the way, despite how friendly she is. There’s a part of her that believes they’ll disappear, or reject her, or turn out to have been making fun of her the whole time.
26: Does your OC live in self-denial about anything?
Arrow isn’t necessarily living in self-denial, but part of the reason she hasn’t recovered her memories is because she’s afraid of who she might have been. Her mind suppresses her dreams & keeps memories from bursting through as a way of protecting her from possible trauma. Until she’s ready to accept who she was, or perhaps meets people who knew her Then, she probably won’t be recovering memories any time soon.
(Note: Mun doesn’t actually know much about amnesia and is using points from various media. Is this the smartest thing to do? No, but it makes for a fun story.)
((Note 2: Okay look, I have so many ways for her to regain her memories it’s not even funny, but for now? We’re just gonna go with this, Kay?))
Charlie on the other hand… well. Canonverse Charlie, not End of an Era!Charlie, is in denial of her powers. Sort of? She knows she has them, but she doesn’t really believe it, you know? Especially since the other people she knows with powers (HF and assorted members) all have cool, flashy ones. And hers is very passive.
Send me 📂 for a useless headcanon I have about my muse.
Arrow likes tea. Mostly chai and green tea, but she’s fond of any tea. She likes the heat of it in her hands, and the flavor. She usually puts a bit of honey and cream in it, but she’ll take it plain.
Charlie likes iced vanilla coffee, but no one likes Charlie on coffee. (Or any caffeinated/sugar beverage.) If you think she talks a lot normally, well. You’re in for a surprise.
