Arrowhead provincial park 🏕
A Final Dusting A few weeks have passed since this final dusting of snow in the mountains of California that so clearly highlighted the features of Arrowhead Lake...Today, a few patches of snow remain in shadowy places, but the white glaze seems confined to the higher peaks where the frosting portrays places on earth that touch the heavens, existing in both worlds at once, creating a dreamlike vision of seasons and times past.
rock portals, rocky mountain national park, colorado.
along the trail ridge road at 12,110 feet, rock portals frame this view. 2,000 feet below lies forest canyon. mount ida, on the left rises to 12,700 feet. arrowhead lake lies at the base of mount julian.
Drew Smith, who recently published a piece on his PCT in the on-line hiking magazine TrailGroove -- http://www.trailgroove.com/issue32.html?autoflip=111 -- took a number of wonderful photos as he walked north. He left the trail south of his intended goal of Lassen Peak with a herniated disk but has improved enough to be heading for the Arizona trail next month. The larger bottom photo is of East Vidette Peak (near the confluence of Vidette Creek and Bubbs Creek). The smaller photos were taken in the Owens Peak Wilderness and of Arrowhead Lake (just below Rae Lakes).
Possibly one of the trickiest trails I have done to date 🚴🏼♀️
