All right, so -- @arson-tm sent me this lovely ask, but Tumblr glitched and won't let me edit my original answer, so -- here we go lol.
What's your process writing fics?
If it's a drabble or ficlet, none -- I just wing it. If it's a multi-chapter fic, however, I do very brief planning before each chapter (sometimes, not every time). Then, before I post it, if it's for a multi-chapter fic, I reread it and make edits. Sometimes I'll even rewrite whole parts because I don't like the way they sound in my head. That step of the process can get a little tedious and obsessive whoops. (I rarely go into my intense edit mode for ficlets.)
Do you write off of bullet points or distinctive scenes?
A little bit of both! Here's an example of my planning for a Dark Light chapter:
I cherry-picked a good one lol. There're obviously ones that strayed far from what actually happened!! If you look closely at the planning above, you'll notice I left out something important hehehe.
How much research goes into it?
A buttload lol. If you look through this tag, you'll understand why and how much. (I actually feel like the tag doesn't demonstrate how much I research shit, but yeah, it's a lot.)
How much time does each step of the process take you?
Planning? Not so much. But actually writing it?? Hours. Five tops before I give up and try another day. And the rereading/rewriting can take just as long, if not more.
Do you dive into character analysis and speaking patterns beforehand in order to portray a character as accurately as possible or simply write them as you perceive them?
Great question! I don't think I do it consciously -- I just have a really powerful imagination and am good at visualizing what I write. I always have a movie version of what I'm writing playing in my head, so I write with the flow, which means including mannerisms, expressions, setting descriptions, etc. I don't think this counts as me writing characters as I, personally, perceive them, mostly because I'm always making a conscience effort to not write anything too OOC.
