Elaf: After viewing the pictures of your yard on your blog, I was even more immersed in your audio. Even without them though, you did a great job of making an interactive piece that was exciting and very descriptive. I really enjoyed that you interacted with other people in your audio, capturing their voices as sounds. I also thought it was fun how your voice changed when you called to your dog! Overall a very lovely piece and very immersive.
Fatimah: Your audio recording had me listening on the edge of my seat the whole time. It felt like you were not reminiscing like many of us, but rather documenting an experience. You seemed like a vlogger in that you were able to take us with you on your journey. I liked that you talked about how you prepared for the trip, like bringing your mask and sanitizer. This was no easy feat, but you pulled it off very well and I’m glad we could accompany you on your journey this way.
Marwa: I loved that in your audio, you didn’t even have to disclose where you were recording, the audience could just tell by the sounds all around and the descriptions you gave of the children and the ice cream truck, etc. that you were at a park. You captured lots of different interesting sounds and I really liked that you incorporated your personal experience with your son and husband.
Bree: Your audio was short but sweet! It was very descriptive and reminiscent of the sort of solitude that has come along with the pandemic. I feel like I got a clear visual image of the pavement exactly as you were describing it and your voice was very mellow and calm.
Gabrielle: I loved how upbeat and exciting your audio recording was! It made me feel like I was really at the mall with a friend, getting excited over anime and Cinnabon. I also loved listening to you talk about how the mall had changed over time as different shops moved in and out. We also got a sense of your own tastes and interests in the mall, making this a very cool personal piece.
Charli: I loved the nature sounds in your audio. Your piece reminded me heavily of mine in a lot of ways, which I found very cool! I enjoyed the different sounds captured (even the wind!) and how you maintained a calm and laid back tone of voice throughout the recording. It was very descriptive and I could visualize exactly what you were saying in my head.
Lina: Your piece was very calm and laid back. I liked how mellow it was. I also loved how you ended it, asking how long it would take to walk across the city. It left the audience with something to linger on, even after the audio itself had ended and I think this was a very strong piece because of it! I felt the same sense of comfort and warmth from the rainy street that you were describing. Overall, super nice job!

Gabrielle: You could go in so many interesting directions with this! There’s no shortage of cool things to talk about in a mall. Will you go when it is busy or when it is relatively slow? Depending on what you decide it could greatly impact the audio!
Elaf: from what you said in our meeting, your backyard has a pool and lots of amazing things to talk about! I’m sure you will come up with some very interesting things to discuss and I’m very interested in getting a feel for what your yard looks like! Great idea!
Fatimah: Your airport idea is very creative and different and I can’t wait to see how it comes together. It would be interesting to compare and contrast the different airports in Amsterdam, Detroit, etc. It must be such a strange experience to go through the airport during this pandemic! Good luck and be safe!
Charli: You are a very energetic person so I can’t wait to see how your audio comes together, out in your backyard! I know you’ll come up with some interesting things to talk about! Don’t be too hard on yourself, and just stick with your gut! It’ll turn out great.
Skating Through Ponds and Prairies (2020)
For Project 2, we are required to create an audio tour of somewhere of our choosing. I immediately knew I wanted to document a skateboarding trip through some of my favorite outdoor trails near my house. These trails are a part of the land owned by my old middle school, so they bring back a lot of memories for me and I have watched them grow and change over many years. I think skating would create an interesting sound and allow me to cover more ground faster. I particularly want to focus on one area of the trails near a little floating dock over a pond, because my favorite hill for skating is right here and I feel there is a lot to talk about in this area! I’m quite excited to start this project and reminisce about my childhood in this nature wonderland.
Thus far, I have entirely completed the editing process for my interpretation of the Korra meets Uncle Iroh scene. I intend to go back in and smooth out the final cut as well as tighten up some of the scenes, however I am very proud of myself for being nearly complete! I don’t plan on adding any effects to the piece as it is meant to be a simple, somewhat raw interpretation of the originally proposed scene.
