Trying To Keep Myself Awake (aka the 20/7 work schedule)
Here I am, in Bangsar Village II with Scratchdisk head-honcho's Vernon Chan and Jason Lim. What they're trying to do is to finish a huge chunk of their creative work, while lounging calmly on the delightfully comfortable seats of Starbucks. Myself, I'm trying to finish the skeleton of thought for what is to become my talk tomorrow. I shall be speaking in UCSI tomorrow about diversifying from visual arts (namely, photography) into publication and production. As I am still learning about a multi-platform approach to media and communications, I am unsure as to the value of my talk. I can speak for hours on end on topics like clinical psychology, or multiple intelligences, or personality, thanks to my protracted commitment as a tutor back in my academic days, but I am a relative newbie in matters pertaining to publishing. I have managed to stay afloat during my stint with an automotive magazine because of the training and preparations afforded to me during the course of my life, in addition to personal coaching by my editor, Mr. Oon Yeoh (now a close friend). His story is fascinating, and strictly demands a separate post, but in another time. Coming back to point, through his guidance, I am able to lunge head-first into the complex nature of publishing, generously adorned with close-quarters politicking and scrotum-kissing, unmotivated designers and unproductive salespeople, ridiculously uninformed general managers and spineless operation officers. I admit that was a bit harsh, but I am generally austere about incompetent people. So, coming back to the staying awake, I had to think and write this in order to stay awake, and it is rather trying to make it seem like I am not... zzz... zzz
