Miles Davis a 61 ans en février 1987. Il participe au défilé du créateur japonais Koshin Satoh sous les lueurs orangées du Tunnel, night-club emblématique de Manhattan (…). Le jazzman déteste toujours autant la foule. Mais ce soir-là, il fait une exception et accepte de défiler pour l’événement en compagnie d’Andy Warhol, un ami proche. Les deux hommes présentent différentes pièces toute la soirée jusqu’au grand final, pour lequel Miles Davis enfile un lamé or doté d’une longue cape bouffante.

Le trompettiste fait volte-face et lance un regard noir à son ami en vociférant : “Andy, ramasse ma putain de cape.” Le musicien a toujours eu de l’allure, mais habillé ainsi, il est tout simplement “divin” selon Warhol.
