Art Weekend - Ophelia by John Everett Millais
Although the image of Ophelia singing unaware of herself being in danger before drowning in the river is an iconic image, it exists only in another character's description and is not shown in the play Hamlet itself. John Everett Millais's depiction of this scene was not originally well recieved but it's accurate depiction of landscape and vivid attention to detail made it an inspiration to other artists. Ophelia is now considered one of the most famous pieces of the nineteenth century.

Art Weekend - Bad Lemon (Tart) by Kathleen Ryan
As a allegory for decandence and the circle of life, Kathleen Ryan's Bad Fruit sculptures depict oversized fruit slowly rotting away. The pristine fruit is created with common beads made of glass but the rot and mold are created with precious and semi-precious jewels. Ryan states that despite being the rot, it is the mold that is "the most alive part". Bad Lemon (Tart) was created with citrine, amber, turquoise, jade, amethyst, garnet, and serpentine among other precious stones.
Art Weekend - The Dilemma of Being Human by Glen Martin Taylor
Inspired by the art of kintsugi, Glen Martin Taylor repairs ceramic objects with everyday objects, ranging from twine to metals. The act of breaking and repairing is a form of self-therapy and reflects the way the human soul heals. The goal is not to repair to seem unbroken but to change the object fundamentally and metaphorically heal.
Art Weekend - Departure of the Winged Ship by Vladimir Kush
Colorful and vibrant seascapes are a common depiction for Vladimir Kush, the father of metaphorical realism. By combining realism imagery with a visual representation of metaphor, a new art form inspired by surrealism is formed. Inspired by the long migration journey that butterflies undertake, Kush depicts a three-mast ship with a different variety of sails.
Art Weekend - Chrysanthemumby Holly Warburton
Using a wide variety of vibrant colors, Holly Warburton often catches many, if subtle, emotions. Often building from observational sketches, Warburton uses color to influence the mood and feeling of a piece. Light and translucent brushstrokes are layered carefully to build shadows and depth as well as a wealth of colors.
