Here’s something new for today!
This is me. Well, my Tumblr persona. But it looks a lot like me. And the ghost kitty there is my creativity and inspiration for drawing. I go everywhere with him! Notify me if I should change this to the yelmor-boots avatar or if I should keep it Keith. (This is also my art style.)
Look: www.deviantart.com/unlatrun/ar… www.deviantart.com/unlatrun/ar… That is what it started of as and now I can say this is how the style is supposed to look! Even figured out how the fur would suit it! (Not actual characters, just needed to color the drawing) Generally -> simplifying and making things round/big but not fat just depending on the character ->no edges unless its like claws or specific eyes and sometimes the ears -> paws have 3 digits and with front + a thumb ->Watercolor This style will only be drawn with Watercolor brushes(So watercolor in generall) I think it suits the style. Keep in mind it'll take a long time for me to figure out watercolor paintings haha - minus the sketches, just pencil tool or similar(generally sketch with pencil tools and pixel tools) -(meaning all background with this styles are simpler and with watercolors!) Made this specifically to be my reference sheet, so I won't mix my styles by accidents later. Except for my default(and this one) each one will get a slight overhall and therefore a referencesheet(default doesn't need one, but gets one anyway haha). Screw studying today. Had another interview today, so I just needed something to calm down and relax haha.
Just wanted all 7 styles side by side. Size is just because I didn't want to change the canvas size, so 3&5 are smaller to fit on the canvas. Styles: 1st style Default ->The style I've always been drawing from the very start 2nd style Semi-/realistic ->Drawing as realistic as possible, mostly with lots of references tbh 3rd style Cartoon ->Mostly giving a cartoony look 4th style Cute ->Making the characters look smooth and cute as much as possible 5th style Comic ->There is actually a lot more to it, than what I've shown so far, it is a play of various shapes, but mostly not anatomically correct. 6th style Squishy ->Squishy/fat/round, no sharp edges allowed haha, mostly for animation to play with bounciness 7th style Inspired ->Inspired by multiple aspects of different artists styles, I combined them with my own personal flair, so that nothing is copied, but I could still have the aspects that I like so much from the other styles. Why so many art-styles? ->For one, it is a great diversity especially once I do commissions again in 2023, everyone can just pick one they like. ->It is super fun to switch between styles and I feel like I now got all the bases covered that I wanted. Every style has their own trait, inspired by other styles (while style 7 combines multiple), so they are all unique, while you can probably still see that it is me who is doing them. ->No feeling of burnout tbh! I also have less of a reason to commission someone else, I can already see my characters in different art-styles, doesn't mean I wouldn't commission anyone anymore, but I'm in my last year of school and can't effort to commission anyone anyway, honestly I have to get better with my money management haha. ->To the burnout, over the years, it just bummed me out drawing the same style over and over again, while yeah it looks good now, there was no diversity, no real challenge or improvement to do, in style I mean. (obviously you can always improve) Now there are multiple it is a joy to draw more than ever. When I feel bored of one style, I'll draw another. -> Of course all art-styles need to be refined and improved, but honestly I'm happy that I have to do that, while it will take a long time to refine each of them and all the traits they have, it is going to be worth it in the end. Its fun to make traits up that make that style that style. ->It is a very good learning experience, it through me out of my comfort-zone in which I've been stuck for a long time, my main style(1-default) has some restrictions, that are not in the other styles. Style 1 is and was never intended for comedic expressions, more for a realistic approach, style 3(cartoon) & style 5(comic) allow such expressions the most. Each style allows something different that I could not do with the other, which is basically why its 7 art-styles and not like 2-3. ->Not an actual point, but it is going to be a pain in the butt to figure out different shading, lining, background styles that suit each style :P Each style is going to use different tools(like pixel, watercolor etc.) with different methods(like blurry shading or not), all of which I still have to figure out. (And am excited to do)
More of a test with mostly only using the crayon tool, and kinda just splashed colors on it to see this style with color for the first time haha. Not a real full drawing tbh, I didn't bother much, after having used Crayons for lineart No specific character in mind, but lets just call 'em Charlie. A new oc then. Done in my new 7th art-style!
And the last art-style of mine which I'm going to call "Inspired", as most aspects are inspired by other artists styles, with of course my own personal flair. So the "skinnyness" was inspired by kinda adventure time style like? and pastarru on youtube, which inspired most of its form. Then the eyes, the square eyes kinda inspired by -someone I'm gonna look for later-, they also inspired the form a bit. Big, less detailed fluff reminds me of some cute looking art-styles, and some ways I've drawn before. Basically this art-style is combining some of my favorite aspects of other peoples art-styles without copying them! This art-style is also not to correct with anatomy, so I'll have to see how far I can go with it. Gotta say, it does look vastly different from the other art-styles so this is exactly what I wanted! Of course I'll have to refine it a lot, but for now the basics are down! In general for each style they'll be different brushes/tools used, that fit them best, but that'll be a while, I want to refine them all first.
Meh I'll have about 7 art-styles as maximum. I want art style 7 to be vastly different from the other 6, so 7 will take a long time to come up with. Why does it have to be 7? More of a mental thing I suppose, 7 is okay for me, every other number is kinda weird to me if it makes sense? Right now I felt like I missed a few art-style opportunities. So 6 is here. Style 6 is mainly characterized by its large round eyes and round shapes. Basically you draw circles for about every body part. (well except for ears and other stuff, but nose is round) This gives of a feel of "squishiness" and "roundness", there are no fur lines unlike in most of my other styles. The large eyes give a cute vibe and the only time I could use such large eyes without feeling uncomfortable drawing them. Style 6's focus lies in animation! Squash and stretch are a principle of animation, this style keeps shapes simple, so that squash and stretch are easy to implement. Very simple style to make animation practice a lot easier for me + it is rather cute. This art-style is actually inspired by so many other artists, many especially younger artist draw their characters with really large eyes and often very large ears, then there are animators who keep their art-style extremely simple in favor of the animation. That all said, this style still needs a lot of refinement and tests with different characters and animals, humans, fantasy creatures etc.
