hi im kind of an aspiring artist and I've kinda hit a block in my digital art... I was wonder what is your art process? I really look up to you and your art is amazing
WELL first up thank you !! i think my art is pretty messy compared to a BUNCH of other people on here but its always great to hear people think otherwise aha
ive had a handful of other requests for more rock type pokemon variations so im gonna do TWO THINGS at once here and set out the process for an amethyst golem
first up is the initial sketch ! this can take anywhere from two to twenty mintues because i have no idea what im doing, at any time
then i make a new layer over the top, reduce the opacity on the sketch and start up in the lineart ! all those crystals were a huge pain in the ass but its already looking a thousand times more interesting than the actual golem design so thats great
next is flat colors, lotta purple lotta brown
NOW USUALLY id just skip to highlights and flats but since these are crystals im going to throw some basic texture/shading inside. once again i think its important to say i have no idea what im doing
then basic shading and highlighting ! recently ive been putting all the colors on one layer, but before that i generally put the shadows and highlights on seperate ones so if i messed up TOO terribly it would be easier to fix
its also important to note that i generally dont use solid black for shadows - less visual interest ! in this case its a dark purple
THEN im going in, adding smaller details in the crystals, blending the nightlights, strengthening the shadows, little details
HEY WAIT you might shout, angry at your monitor and yourself for caring, the lines look pretty terrible !! well gather your tiny horses up into your arms im getting there
NEXT ill select the lineart layer and lock it so lines applied onto that layer will only affect whats already on there, and select colors that allow the lineart to blend in with the colors of the body
aka after a lot of brushstrokes, the solid red lines of THIS, turned into THIS
FINALLY after a few touch-ups its done ! definitely need to practice crystals more damn but all in all not too bad, maybe its the final stage of this one huh
