How Art Affects Life: Vincent van Gogh and His Approach to Art
Art has its way of affecting life. Indeed, art is not just for pleasing our sensory organs. Due to the universality of emotions expressed through art, people who isolate themselves find comfort in it. One of the most influential artists of all times is posthumous Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh. This artist continues to fascinate the world with his timeless paintingâs superficial beauty. Vincent van Gogh brought out the vividness of human emotions in the open. The Tortured Vincent van Gogh - Approach to Art The world perceives Vincent van Gogh as a âmadâ artist. But, he was just someone who suffered greatly with no one who truly understood him. Even in isolation, he admitted that feelings overwhelmed him. Misunderstood, people mocked him. Encouraged to draw by his mother, Vincent produced artworks which were expressive at a young age. But, these works were not as intense as his later works. He channeled his sufferings into his paintings with grace. As he grew older, he drowned further in the ocean of sadnessâcalling for help in a language no one understood. Words are often too little to define the degrees of peopleâs sufferings. That is why others express it through art. In one of Vincent van Goghâs latest paintings, he wrote to his brother Theo canvases will tell you what I cannot say in words, that is, how healthy and invigorating I find the countryside. The last of his paintings, which portrayed âvast fields of wheat under turbulent skiesâ, represented his sadness and extreme loneliness. On the 27th of July 1980, Vincent shot himself on the chest. It was believed he inflicted himself in the field where he had been painting. Due to the untreated infection in the wound, he met his demise at the early age of 37. According to his brother Theo, his brotherâs final words were the sadness will last forever. The Timelessness of Vincent Van Goghâs Art If it werenât for the expressive brushstrokes of Vincent, his works would have had ended forgotten in time. The vividness and the universality of inner wars, and often human struggles, display the authenticity of his character as an artist. Through his works, people find comfort in the shared sufferings that words had long failed to define. He helped people take a glimpse at the vast depths of worldly sufferings. Vincent van Goghâs approach to art was not for aesthetic purposes only. His paintings allow people to express the depths of emotions that others fail to fathom. Needless to say, his paintingsâ quintessential purpose was to expose human vulnerabilities shrouded behind the façade of madness. Read the full article
