Sharing your vulnerability. Bringing people into your world. Allowing your cracks to be seen. I used to cringe at the idea of revealing myself to others. I thought that if I shared the raw parts of me, someone might judge or reject me, and that would mean I’m not worthy of love or respect. Now, I crave conversations that scratch beneath the surface and dive into the world of struggle and success, being and becoming, transitioning and triumphing. As my dear friend @dhrupurohit reminded me over dinner last night: It’s each other’s stories that we look to to see ourselves and feel connection. Depth never gets old because we find ourselves through the pain, struggle, and success of others. And THAT, my friend, is the divine driving motivation for making art, telling stories, and broadcasting our voices to the world. It is our responsibility as creators to reveal the vulnerable bits within us that make us human, and allow those to be seen by the world. Why? To see and be seen. To connect and affect. More and more, I find myself drawing back from competition. Rather than asking, "how am I doing compared to THEM," I'm asking, "how am I doing compared to ME?" How far I can go when I'm the only player is infinite. The best part? It holds space for and celebrates everyone's light.
