Giving the hair shape and movement allowing the painting to speak for itself. "Through this painting, I wanted to depict the beauty, pain, struggle and oppression of the black woman. Black women have been oppressed throughout the years not only physically but mentally in society. As you can see, I used my pallet knives and brushes to build up a story. The background colors depicting police lights. Also the shadow hands covering her mouth expressing how she has no say.
