        it's been a long day, no wonder katherine had longed for a bath. a hot bubble bath with the scent of roses. her favorite. it helped, her muscles relaxed noticeable and she let out a happy sigh.

        unfortunately, the relaxed feeling was gone when the water got cold and her muscles started to tense when she got out of the bathtube and left the pleasantly warm bathroom. why is it so cool in this house? she tightened the fluffy towel around her petite body and quickly went to the bedroom where it is in fact warmer.

        "you know what? a massage sounds just right. perhaps your magic hands can achieve something a hot bath can not." she grinned at eve and let the towel fall to the floor before she crawled in the bed.

     she’s out of her league. but a bucket list isn’t filled with things you would normally do everyday. she’s seen too many movies and doesn’t actually know how this is all supposed to work. “which dress?” she has three laid out on the bed. an ivory with black lace, a mostly sheer black, both of which stop just below her knees, or a full length red dress with a small train and plunging v in the back that stops right at her hips. “is it normal to show this much skin at a work event?”

        katherine wrapped her arms around eve and pulled her closer, cocooning her better than any butterfly-to-be while gently rubbing her back. "yeah?" she smiled against her neck. "that's good to know"

     “i belong to nobody. not anymore. and this can’t work if you don’t see that.” she turns to look at evangeline. the comment, she thinks, was said playfully. but maybe she’s wrong about even that. she had known that getting involved with a client was a bad idea. yet she’d succumbed to the temptation anyway. mara’s jaw clenches and she spares a glance in eve’s direction. her heart is breaking, but it has to be this way. it has to. for both of them. and she’s going to have to hurt eve in order for this to work.

     “look, evangeline, you were a great client. and the sex was decent.” as in some of the best sex of her life, but that admission won’t help anything now. “but this isn’t going to work anymore. i’ll have the office call you with another referral for a guard. i apologize for the short notice. i just think it’s for the best. be safe. please.” before she can look in those beautiful eyes or give eve the chance to reply, mara walks away and before she is out of the gala hall, there are tears streaking down her face.
