Hey Death-or is it Mr. Death-did the Greek gods ever exist, or were those stories someone made up? Also, was it the chicken or the egg that came first? Also, if you've heard those questions a million times, here are some cookies in consolation.
Whether Death was placated by the offering of baked goods, or amused by the string of unrelated questions, in order to feel benevolent enough to entertain the inquiries, was tough to say. His expression certainly didn’t belie any evidence of his thought process.
“Yes, they exist.” He replied, in tone that told he was entirely uninterested in the conversation, and much more-so in the cookie he was now taking a bite of.
The taste determined whether or not he felt the need to say more.
“Though, as with any religious text, of -any- faith, it should be taken with a grain of salt.” He continued, before indulging in another bite.
“The perspective of the human writing is always littered with misinformation. And through the years humans also like to add, remove, and change texts to their liking.” He informed.
“‘She’ becomes a ‘He’. This God, Angel, or Saint is left out entirely. A deity is added that never existed beyond imagination. Chapters are removed, others are replaced. The God of one faith become the devil of another. This culture adopts the Gods of that culture, changes their names, and titles planets after them.” He waved his hand flippantly, and shook his head. “It’s all a jumbled mess, really.”
A moment of silence to further enjoy the pastries, Death felt was necessary, in order to bridge the gap in conversation from one topic to another completely unrelated.
“I’ve never understood why that so called ‘paradigm’ is such a hotly debated topic amongst your kind.” Death bristled, his voice laced with subtle frustration that gave way to stoic calm seconds later.
“Disregarding the chicken’s Triassic ancestors, which obviously long ago preceded it,” he sighed. “The chicken. The chicken came first. If it didn’t, even if an egg suddenly materialized into existence on its own, without circumstance, design, or an instinct driven presence to protect and care for it, the species would have gone extinct before it even began.”
