The sodden eyes had kept something of the loveliness of their blue, the noble curves had not yet completely passed away from chiselled nostrils and from plastic throat. Yes, it was Dorian himself. But who had done it? He seemed to recognize his own brushwork, and the frame was his own design. The idea was monstrous, yet he felt afraid. He seized the lighted candle, and held it to the picture. In the left-hand corner was his own name, traced in long letters of bright vermilion."

The ongoing comparison of Bernini’s versus Michelangelo’s David is an argument I approach with a sense of hesitance. These two artists and their works are seperate is nearly every way; the periods of artwork their works were set in, the example of subjects, and the method of make. Both are marble portraits of the biblical character of David, and that’s about where the resemblances end.

I like the lip bite, very sexy, and the positioning of the torso is nearly impossible for most people to recreate. The proportioning could use some adjustment, as well as the placement of the bag on his hip. Just small things that remind you it’s man made.

La comparaison permanente du David du Bernin et du David de Michel-Ange est un argument que j'aborde avec hésitation. How many times, in school, have I been made to stare at this sculpture and tell people what I think of it? Too many times. Does this effect my review? Absolutely, yes. But am I entitled to my opinion, nevertheless? Certainly.
