The finials were sized with the oil and after they dried to a 'tack' the 23kt gold leaf went on. These will sit atop the gilded armoire. ~ #seppleafproducts #artfusionevent2018 #gildingartsnewsletter (at Charles Douglas Gilding Studio)

Blowing the leaf onto a finial for the gilded armoire project...23k ;) ...#seppleafproducts #artfusionevent2018 #gildingartsnewsletter (at Charles Douglas Gilding Studio)
Oil gilding in progress! ...1. Washing the 23kt gold leaf with a soft mop and cold water to clean the gilding from skewings (residual pieces of gold leaf); 2. Tamping the gold with cotton (oil gilded leaf does not stain in the way that water gilded leaf can but you do want to tamp-out any water beading; 3. Three finials to be gilded and set atop the armoire; 4. Pedestal before and during gilding which the armoire will placed upon. ~ #seppleafproducts #artfusionevent2018 #gildingartsnewsletter (at Charles Douglas Gilding Studio)
A work in progress, sneak peek...pedestal to the armoire. Oil gilded 23k double Italian leaf. There is dental moulding underneath the top bullnose perimeter which will pop out once gilded! Then on to some water gilding in the studio through May before heading to New York to meet some wonderful students as we explore glass, oil, and traditional water gilding! An exciting Summer ahead :). ~ #gildingartsnewsletter #seppleafproducts #artfusionevent2018
Gilded and toned the frame face and corners to blend with the Liner and frame sides. Needed to capture some luminosity under the desired deep tones so oil gilded brass leaf over the previous existing dull paint, sealed with clear shellac and applied raw umber casein, buffed the highlights and sealed in the finish with a light airbrushed clear shellac. ~ #artfusionevent2018 (at Charles Douglas Gilding Studio)
