Ok in all honestly I would think that England would nag Elizabeth about getting married but I wanted to draw them as bros.
I apologise if you've been asked this before, but may I enquire as to your opinion on England's age? Or at least, when about he may have conceivably first been 'formed', even before he gained the name/identity that is now associated with 'England'.
I was fairly certain that I had answered a similar ask not long ago on here but as I can't seem to find it, I have to assume that it isn't on this blog. For England's age, I assume him to be under 2,000 years old. But when he first came into existence? That is a bit more complicated as I've managed to collect four possibilites of when he was "born".
- The latest date would be 827 AD as that is the year when Echbert of Wessex becomes the first King of all England, but is not officially crowned as King of England. (the tradition of the crown came about later)- An earlier date would be 779 AD when King Offa of Mercia defeated the West Saxons and was regarded as Overlord of all the lands in England.
However the trouble with these dates is that they are fairly late and only focus on the political unification of England. So personally, I wouldn't go for either mentioned dates and look at the earlier possibilities.
- Logically the first one we'd consider is when the Anglo-Saxons really started to come to Great Britain and settling the land they managed to conquer from the Celts. From this possibility, we're looking at England appearing roughly around 5th century AD.
- The 4th possibility is a bit different, in the sense that in this possibility, England started out originally as a Celtic Briton like Wales. Personally I am beginning to enjoy this possibility as it does lend itself to some family drama and bitterness. The headcanon of England's origin in this case can be read in full detail here, but to sum it up shortly, England came into existence in the early 3rd century AD and is younger than Wales by just a few decades. Under Roman rule and after the Romans left, England remained a Celtic Briton but when the Anglo-Saxons came and conquered all the lands surrounding England, he was put in a position where he had to assimilate with culture and language of the new rulers and renounced his Celtic nature to survive. As a result, his memories of being a Celtic Briton have been all but lost and while he does sometimes feel regret over the loss, he usually brushes that feeling aside and tries to make himself appear superior to his brothers and everyone else for his lack of a surviving Celtic culture. (I treat Cornwall as a separate entity from England) The irony that the 4th possibility became the longest of the four. I hope you found the answers satisfying!
Short livestream, crappy pictures.
