Marraige by Proxy
On this day in history the 19th of May 1499. Catalina de Aragon and Arthur Tudor, Prince of Wales were married by proxy.
Both were still teens Catalina just turning thirteen and Arthur not yet thirteen. It was unusual for a boy was not a man till fourteen in this era but a girl was a woman at twelve.
It was an occasion of great celebration for bith Spain and England. Henry VII now being on the throne for only fourteen years and having three living sons and two living daughters he was making his newly made Dynasty a stronger and more wealthy for Catalina's dowry was a whopping one Million pounds in today's money.
