My Five Articles
Today I read several articles that were focused on different problems in the farming industry. The first one was about how people in Silicon Valley are starting to support local farmers and agriculturalists. They said that they need to start buying local crops. Also they supported the idea of having small gardens on their property.
The second article I read talks about how agriculture is wasting our two most important resources, fresh water and oil. Sundrop Farms is a is manipulating the Sun and saltwater to do most of the work. They figured out a system of creating greenhouses that work entirely by uses of the Sun. The Sun makes the saltwater fresh by boiling it, the light in used through solar panels to make the greenhouses' have a renewable heating and cooling system, and the Sun will give the plants the ability to photosynthesize.
The third article that I read was focuses on the Californian World Agriculture Expo and how it very different from your average farmers market. The expo produced more than just crops, it also showed new farming equipment to make harvesting and pesticide spreading easier. Many of the people that attended the expo were local farmers who depended on the fog to arrive. The fog meant that the crops would have enough water for the day and the animals in their farms had an excuse to not go outside and just eat the hay in the bales.
The fourth article published portrayed the circumstances of the Californian drought. The drought that has ravaged the Californian farms and has affected the cost of many local crops. The organic dairy farmers have taken the hardest hit because they rely on organic grass and since it is all dried up they have to purchase organic hay.
I was not very satisfied with the last article that I read. It had to do with the superb owl. More focused on the commercials. The article talked about the one commercial that had to do with farming, and all the other commercials that they liked. It had nothing to do with farming and was not very interesting.
