ARTIFICIAL EAR 8: RADICAL TENDERNESS
Please join us for the eighth installment of ARTIFICIAL EAR (EE #24): RADICAL TENDERNESS RADICAL TENDERNESS does not acknowledge a break between the personal and the public. The resulting vulnerability is not a weakness; it is a useful disguise for anger and brilliance, and a trap for the mindlessly violent. The radically tender build "machines that generate empathy" and teach others to never submit to those whose goal is to deprive or destroy them. Tenderness is a gut space. It is a fluid and fertile terrain that prepares us for many encounters to come. July 30, 8pm HCL 4th floor studios Mana Contemporary Chicago 2233 S. I paint a sexually and spiritually confused youth." – Sofia Moreno La Spacer creates audio art with Techno & House as the groundwork using HARDWARE machines during production. Raised in the birthplace of HOUSE music, growing up in the 90s in CHICAGO in the neighborhood of Little Village where Italo Disco, a.k.a. "Da CLASSICS", Industrial, House, Hard House, Acid House, Techno was blasting out of speakers from those old school Dj PROMO Cds and Tapes; Or the radio, the neighbors windows, or a car cruising by with a BASS bumping system. It is not a coincidence that La Spacer was raised in the right place to influence and pursue her passionate feelings for Mind Bending Body Music. Anna Vitale lives in Madison, WI, where she's pursuing a PhD in English Literature. Her writing includes Unknown Pleasures, a book about Joy Divison, Ian Curtis, and suicidal desire; and Anna Vitale's Pop Poems, which are poems based on R&B and hip-hop songs she loves from the early 90s. Anna's video work includes "Street View Lyric," which is based on Google Street View images of her childhood neighborhood, taking "Come and Talk to Me" by Jodeci as its soundtrack. Not surprisingly, Anna is working on a book titled Detroit, Detroit.

OMNE IGNOTUM PRO MAGNIFICO. Every unknown thing [is taken] for great. "In my present weak state of both mind and body, I should infallibly lose my way if I attempted it, and perish miserably amid the dismal and disgusting labyrinths of the hold. I proceeded, therefore, without hesitation, to summon up all of my remaining strength and fortitude, and endeavor, as I best might, to clamber over the crate." Edgar Allen Poe, The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket OMNE IGNOTUM PRO MAGNIFICO. Inclinations towards the terror of violence, and its negative blossoming on the body. How deceit is configured as the essential probe for anticipating fear and how we absorb or fight it. Break down now.
