Merlin’s Legendary Tomb
MERLIN’S LEGENDARY TOMB MAY BE OPENED FOR THE FIRST TIME
The Mound in the grounds of Marlborough College in southern England is a massive artificial hill constructed around the same time as Stonehenge and Avebury, approximately 4,500 years ago.
The purpose of the earthwork is an enduring enigma.
Wiltshire Council is currently considering granting permission for an archaeological dig that may finally reveal its secrets.
Legend holds that ancient heroes were buried here over many centuries, including Merlin of Arthurian fame.
If all goes ahead, the first phase of excavation might involve digging behind the mysterious grotto built into the hillside, said to hide the entrance to Merlin’s tomb.

The Marlborough Mound, also known as Merlin's Mound or Merlin's Mount, is a Neolithic monument in the town of Marlborough in the English county of Wiltshire.
Standing 19 metres (60 ft) tall, it is second only to the nearby Silbury Hill in terms of height for such a monument.
Modern study places the construction date around 2400 BC.
It was first listed as a Scheduled Monument in 1951.
