I found this little vase this past weekend at @booktavern purely because I liked it but I just had to research it a little more when I got home since it’s signed by the artist on the bottom. Turns out Rude Osolnik, the artist, was known for turning simple, balanced pieces from often unique woods (this one is made from dogwood) and would wake up at 2am to spend 4 hours on the lathe before a day of teaching at Berea College in KY where he was a professor. . We are surrounded by art more than we think. Little items like vases or plates or even the shape of our cars are influenced by designers who think outside the box. Even if you’re creating art-for-arts-sake you have more influence on even those who aren’t interested in processing art than you think.
