Movement Research 20-02-24

Aurora Robson is a sculptor that creates installations using scrap translucent plastic. Her work is expansive, taking up lots of space while appearing to hover in mid air. She manipultes and binds the plastic into forms that appear to reach out and move independantly. Her installation 'Plant Perception' takes a winding, root like shape that is stunning in its scale and sense of movement. I hope to implement this ambition of scale in my own sculpture work while also working with similar material.

Disrupt 22-10-23

Sketchbook work including collage and sketches to further develop my ideas and research for Disrupt. I found an old history book from the 60s which had a fairly cherry picked retelling of England's colonisation of Ireland.

I took great joy in chopping up this history book and using it to create a visual response in my sketchbook. I was inspired by the Dadaism art movement which was a reaction to the senseless slaughter of WWI. Artisits like Raoul Hausmann would use collage to make emotive and striking pieces that would cut through the noise of propaganda and fearmongering, especially during periods of political tension.

Using images from the "Conquest and Colonisation" book, I created a juxtaposition of human teeth and the faces of British royality in the place of cavities. I really enjoy the impact of these images, even if they are extremely on the nose. I may go in a more satirical direction with the project as a result of this experimentation with mixed media.
